hmm, maybe i'll return mine and order a new one

Hmm, mine is less than 30 days old. Perhaps I'll return it and order a new one.

Is Sager concerned about those who have purchased in the last 30 days returning to re-purchase, so they get this faster GPU?

Perhaps they should extend the offer to those within the 30 day period. Save a lot of hassle and admin costs, etc.

Mine unfortunately starts with an 84XXXXXXXXX number.

do you happen to have any pictures of the differences?

pictures

The laptop does not look different with either video card. THe video card is installed inside the laptop.

the ATI video card is 20-40% faster on equivalent applications, depending on which review you want to trust.

There were modifications made to accomidate the heat of the x800, I am seeing what I can get picture wise now. All notebooks already out and about that will be upgradeing to the x800(Serial numbers less than 85xxxxxxxxxx) will need to be sent in to have this modification done.

When do we get performance reports on the X800? (as in, is it really better than the go6800?)

We hope to have one soon for reveiw.

So there will not be an increase in price for the X800?

How much will the X800 cost for those will a serial of 85xxxxxx...?

I'm still under my 30 days, like the post above, I don't want to go through the hassle, but financially it makes sense to send it back and reorder.

My serial unfortunately starts with 84.

I was looking for pictures of the modifications needed to be done.

Will you be continuing to offer the go6800 as an option. Dare I say, some of us may be interested in lower heat (and probably power consumption).
I think the price is the same, since the newer laptops got the upgrade without added cost....

Can we officially order this now?? Update: Looks like pretty soon! Thanks Luke!

Can you believe it?

Yes, the ordering options will be up within a few weeks with all the pricing and details. It should be a do-it-yourself easy swap that we should be able to post up instructions on here.

no offense, but why would i pay 3-450 dollars to purchase another GPU, and then be stuck with a very device specific (Nvidia Geforce 6800 GO) that would be near to impossible to sell via Ebay, etc?

Other than saving me the hassle of returning my computer, I see no advantage.

-I ask for an RMA for a full refund, since my ship date was less than 30 days.
-I get a refund.
-I order the identical machine, with the ATI card now installed.
-I reinstall all my software.

Hmm, a week or so without a machine. Or i could RMA my current machine, order a new one, and then apply the refund to the purchase of the newer machine.

Dang, seems to me that Sager needs to allow service returns to upgrade, rather than deal with a bunch of returns that they now have to sell as refurbished machines.

My question is, with the modifications to the modular video unit for the x800, will upgrading at some time in the future be something that we can do ourselves, or will it require sending the computer back to sager? What if at some point I'd like to update to some future nvidia card?

I can already hazard a guess that the answer is 'we don't know'.

I'm imagining even more powerful cards, with more heat, requiring more modifications to keep the 9860 from spontaneously combusting.

Don't know is the absolute truth, however with the latest changes for the X800, it is more likely, now that the interface has "settled in" more, it is more likely you'll be able to.

Is it really that worthwhile?

My 9860 (P4-3.6 + 6800go) performs FASTER than my friend's P4-3.4 + 6800GT (in real world apps) and, quite frankly, the 6800GT has always been a better desktop card (in general) in comparison to the equivalent X800. The 6800go receives a HUGE boost when OC'd. Default speeds couldn't stand up to the 6800GT, but a little OC'ing kicked it up a whole lot.
