NEW!! (again) Asus Z71A - Alviso !!

This one looks like the M6 replacement. Very similar specs with the addition of the new chipset, though the look is quite different. I hope it looks better than the pics indicate....... Looky here

(Note: the dimensions look inaccurate. Not wide enought to accomodate 15.4" screen. Real dimensions will probably be about the same as M6 I'm guessing).

Good find. I like the color.

Nice case...

Crapy video card.

Still M6 is better.

I actually like the color also. It's the look of it open I'm not crazy about. But if this were out and I were buying now, I would probably go for it. New looks always take getting used to!

I didn't notice the video.

"Embedded Alviso-915 GM; shared up to 128MB"

I guess this is the new integrated graphics. Too bad.

I hope they plan on releasing a version with a dedicated gpu. This cant be the M6 replacement

Looks kind of boring to me. Don't like the color either. W1N is still the best looking notebook hands down.

W1N i agree with looking the best hands down. But ATI 9600? man, what were they thinking!

i see geared2play is busy publishing Asus's email today in full.

Not every laptop produced by Asus will top the last one - and 'retailing' is exactly what Asus is going for by producing variants of the z80/z81 and z91. If you don't have multiple variants like Dell/Compaq etc, people won't ever develop a dependence on them as a provider of systems.

for instance, an amd64 62w machine with the Radeon 9200 won't appeal to you, but the lower price point and good looks might be just the thing for someone looking for a little less in the video card department.

The DTR P4 with the 9700 128mb and 15.4" WSXGA+ might be more your speed.

You'll see a lot more "lower end" asus models out this year as they expand their line.

But don't expect every single laptop to be better than the last.

I also don't think that this one is the M6N sucessor.
Besides the graphic card, it also doesn't have gigabit lan as the M6.
I think this one will be more in the budget notebook section.
But I can imagine that wel'll see this Case Design later in a more powerful asus notebook.
(But I like the M6 Design more :-))

Yeah this looks like a budget notebook, not impressed at all.
So it looks like the M6 series is being replaced by the Z7x series?
too round.

needs more M6 masculinity

and the borders makes it look like an HP wtf
post #15 of 16
I read something a while back that reported the integrated video can handle World of Warcraft, though it wasn't an impressive performance.

Design looks alright, I thought it looked i9200ish for a moment, hopefully they will match it with a good price. Definitely not a gamer's notebook, of course.
