Sager 7620 announced - Page 10

71 dB is pretty loud. Most theaters play in 75dB - 85dB.

We're playing around with different firmware to get everything dialed in and optimized. It's very comparable to the touch as the 9860:

Left Palm 35.6
W Key 35
Enter Key 41
Right Palm 40
Touchpad 40

As compared to:

and the noise being 71db as compared to:

which may get reduced a bit before final ship day.

All tests are done with 3dmark running in loop to reach max temp and fan speed. Temp and fan noise is much lower when @ idle or less tasked. There are different weights of noise and different tests can make some frequencies seem much less. The best you can do is compare these with each other. The Sager systems from my experience by no means stand out above other brand DTRs when comparing loudness. Also, their temp to the touch from my experience on average do not stand above other performance brand laptop temps even with mobile processors.

thanks for the update.

Did you look at the CPU temperature when you ran these tests?

My inspiron 5150 is pretty loud when the fans are at full speed but I don't know if that reach 71 dB. If this is the same level, I can live with that.
Are the fans always on like with the 9860?

Any news about the 15" 4:3 screen?
still waiting..

P.S. if 7620's temp is almost the same as 9860's, then why is it so much louder?

that's a good question unless they changed the fans I cannot come up with an explanation.

Hi all. First time poster here. I've been in the market for a new laptop recently and I decided that the 7620 might be a good choice for what I need in a computer. I do a lot of 3D work (not to mention a bit of gaming) and this thing seems to have the power for that. I was wondering what everyone elses opinion might be for this machine. Thanks in advance all.

Oh, stupid question, did they remove the tiny LCD screen. In the weirdest way I found that a really cool feature!

Yes they did. It's cool but if I had the option to choose I would want 7620 without one. The novelty of having it would probably wear off pretty quick. It's a nice looking laptop anyway, the bottom lcd will probably impress enough anyway

Yea, I agree. Very nice even without the little gimic screen. Pretty much a dream in the looks. It doesnt effect my opinion of the laptop either way. Its just kinda cool

Perhaps someone can tell me why they're even considering the 7620 anymore? Personally I think the 7620 is just about pointless, not meaning to be harsh, but it's almost as heavy and cumbersome as the 9860, almost certainly has the same/similar performance throttling issues when running off battery power and can only achieve a maximum of twice the battery life by way of a second internal battery (still only giving you a couple of hours).

This leaves really only three choices at the moment IMO, if you want a powerful lappy with all the bells and whistles then the Sager 9860 is the way to go, if you want a moderately powerful lappy with most of the bells and whistles, reasonable battery life and moderate portability then I'd pre-order the new Dell XPS2, if you want excellent battery life, some power and excellent portability then I'd buy one of the numerous Sonoma based Pentium M 15.4" widescreen laptops that are coming onto the market sporting either the MR X700 or the Go 6600 DDR3 video card (eg. Acer Travelmate 8100).

Andre, have you not considered that some people just don't want a 17" screen mate. I myself have been waiting for a 15" Pentium 4 power laptop and this is the obvious choice for me. I also really like the look of the machine and want something that stands out from the crowd a little. You keep harping on about weight and battery life when this is obviously a DTR.

It's all a matter of taste to be honest - but don't forget the UK customers who, somewhat unfortunately, have a FAR more restricted choice of laptop available to them.

Now the XPS Gen 2 is a different beast altogether and I might well be swayed if the UK release date is finalised shortly. Otherwise it's the 7620 (D700T) for me

Fair call Q4Legend, I apologise for coming across a bit arrogantly, obviously there are still personal preference reasons why people might prefer the 7620, granted it's still smaller and lighter than the 9860, does offer better battery life and still retains the performance of the P4 processor. I also agree that the look of the machine is pretty funky.

Will the D900 get the Ultra soon?

I had ordered a 9860, but cancelled when the original 6800 Go, ATI 800, 6800 ddr3 debate arose. Then Dell came out with the XPS2 and Ultra, so I ordered it. I prefer the 9860 chassis, but for the video card. Does anyone have a credible guess as to when the 9860 will get the Ultra? The Dell comes mid April unless PCT saves the day! Adam or Luke?

BTW, andrepeterhill, should be vindicated on his early predictions that the 6800, when fully clocked would rock. The Ultra has proven him correct.

I'm with you [AE] DRIFTER, I'd cancel dell orders, drop change immediatly if the 6800Ultra came in the 9860. PC Torque, this is a call out for help

Clevo has already confirmed the 6800 ultra will be offered with the D900t, they just have yet to announce an ETA for shipping. As soon as we get an ETA I am sure you will see an announcment up.

That is great news Luke. I guess that heat was not an issue after all. Are they going to include a battery with this one? I look forward to an update on this! Thanks again.

And what about the 6800 ultra in 7620 ?
So far the only word from Sager is that the x800 will be the only GPU offered with the 7620.
sooooooo.... How's that review coming?

I appreciate the comment [AE] Drifter, I was anticipating that the Go 6800 DDR3 would also offer the new GPU clocked at 450MHz, it's turned out that this has been a separate release in the form of the Go 6800 Ultra - many thanks to Luke for confirming that this WILL be released for the 9860 (woohoo!), can't wait to get my hands on one of these and see if it can be made to hit the 5,500 3DMark '05 mark!
