CD booting on Toshiba Tecra 8000

Thread Starter
My problem is,that I can't boot up my Toshiba Tecra 8000 (500Mhz) notebook from any Windows CD.It can be very annoying when I must reinstall Windows. It's a very complicated process to do...
(It has a Plextor CD-R PX S88T CDdrive)

Is there any way to solve this problem?

If I'm understnading your question correctly you need to change the boot order so your machine recognizes the CD drive before the hard disk. I'm not sure how you do this on your particular machine. Some machines allow you to press a function key or some other key on boot up to recognize the CD before the HD. Others allow you to access the bios on bootup and change the boot up order from there. On my machine (M35S 456) there is a utilty in control panel that allows you to change the boot order to recognize the CD before the HD. Is this what you're after?

... like ya1950 said, you can change the Boot Priority easily from Toshiba Hardware under Control Panel.

I just wanted to add that I believe you need to go to the Toshiba site and hunt down and install the Toshiba Utilities for the 8000 first.

Strewth;
Just wondering what model you have and operating system. My control panel has no such thing as "Toshiba Hardware"

I can't post the url's because they are too big but go to the Toshiba site

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...su_sc_home.jsp

Use the search engine (Iris) and type in 'how to boot from CD'

The second item in the list is "How to boot your Toshiba PC from CD-ROM, LAN, or diskette" It should give the information for most models.

As strewth said you can install the Toshiba utilities from their site if your computer doesn't aleady have them installed.

Hope this helps.

@saugen48, win98se, p2-300 in one, p2-400 in another. I think you'll have to hunt down, download and install the toshiba utilities (toshiba site) and it should appear in control panel for ya.

Thanks, I have Toshiba Utilities, but do not see Toshiba Hardware or anything like it within it.

Put in the windows cd, push and hold down the C key, turn on the laptop,
continue to hold the C key down, when you hear beeps remove finger, and
the laptop will boot from the cd/dvd rom.

Also can force the compter to boot from other devices by going into the bios.
Push the escape key, turn on the laptop, wait till Press F! appears on the
screen, and continue from there.
