HP's are notorious for developing serious problems after a year or so. I would stay away. Toshiba is much better if you really want a 17".

Did I mention I was waiting for the 5680 - I only post this stuff so that people can see what a good deal Sager is usually . Its not a bad machine though as far as price/bang goes.

Yeah, but we'll see how it prices fully loaded... "base price" is typically more basic than base.

Cheers.

Well right now they only have 1 option on the web site which is the 3.06GHZ 512 MB RAM, DVDRW+, 80GB HD(no idea the RPM) - 2150 after -100 rebate - if you apply the -1-rebate as well you get .~ $1900. Having said that the web page is now showing out of stock

Unless something's come out very recently an 80GB laptop hard drive is going to be 4200 rpm. Several companies are rumored to be about to unveil 80x5400, but I haven't heard of one hitting the market yet.

Looks nice, but wifi seems to be missing, at least from looking at the HP web site and the PDF file w/ full specs.

It also lacks the 800Hhz FSB of the Toshiba and the 5680.

Yeah I think I mentioned that - I posted it mainly because it is another 17 inch laptop out on the market

Sorry, cerebral flatulation , didn't read past the URL.

It makes you kind of wonder what they were thinking, no WiFi and 533 FSB. They did manage to drop in 64MB for the video instead of the lower end P25s 32MB.

NP - Yeah It seems a little silly - an otherwise decent machine with some major oversites. Anyway with all the screwups hp support is having recently ...

Not only is the HP lacking the faster bus speed, but they went cheap and are only offering it with the GoFx 5600 64Mb version.

FX5600 128 MB will be an option as well. Also, 802.11g should be integrated after some further reading.

Where did you see the option for the 128Mb? Support for g is nice, but my main concern is the video card.

Thanks, now I guess it's just a matter of waiting to see when they will list the availability of that on their site as well.

Hi everyone!

Do you think they'll have the MR9600 Pro as an option too?
And don't know which one will be the best, but some stuff bothers me:

All benchmarks available on the Net test the MR9600 against the Toshiba's FXGo5600. But the Toshiba's is underclocked...

Also, the FXGo5600 is already available (even if only on the Toshiba's and Sony's), but the MR9600 is nowhere to be found...

Will we have to wait a long time before they review the 128MB versions of these two cards? Not underclocked, please...

And all these news about NVidia cheating? I think if we are to make an investment this big (+2500€), we deserve to know what stuff we are getting!!!
Can you imagine the faces of those who bought the Toshiba's, just to find out that its card is underclocked?
Come on! If we're expecting these cards, its because we love games and we want to play them at top speed with max quality!

I'm looking forward to this new HP, and if the FXGo5600 proves to be as good as the ATI's, I won't think twice before buying it... Well, if the new Toshiba's (will be launched October) isn't as good or better, that is...

That look very sexy... but I love the thin look of Sager 4760 better.
Is it 800FSB? I saw on HP website, it's only 533FSB.
Anyway, I just suggest this machine to one of my friend's family. Their son need a gaming machine for his school.

The picture and the specs are both from HP itself.

Although I suspect these specs are for the "not yet released" top quality laptop, that will appear at the end of August...
