May you describe the brightness of the screen? I found that it is not even through the whole screen. for example, the left side appeared to be darker, especially the bottom left. Thanks for your inputs

Jeez, does everybody south of the equator have the same maxed-out config? That must have been some deal they offered you guys.

Love mine, but with that said I'll try to answer your question. I typicall use mine 2 spots down from max brightness. I think its very easy on the eyes and easy to read.

The anti-glare coating can make certain 'areas' of the screen look darker then the others. For example, if you are not looking straight on at the screen, one side may look darker then the other. But from straight on, the entire screen looks perfectly even lit.

Also, sometimes on pure white backgrounds etc, you can see a little shading in the corners. However, once you are doing anything normal on the computer - you cant even notice. When my 9200 boots up, I can notice a little fade in the lower corners, but once in windows I cant even see it.

Hope that makes sense! I'm 100% satisfied w/ the 9200, an amazing notebook

It keeps everything on the globe balanced - there are less of us down here so we make it up with quality!!!

The two lower corners are darker. The corners have diagonal dark blurred lines that point towards the center.

When I first turned on the screen, it looked like there were wrinkle marks when I had a white screen displayed. I don't know if I'm getting used to it, but now it's just the corners I notice.

This is in a replacement unit for one that had a w4554 (LG) screen. While it's much better overall, it does have alot more light leakage on the bottom. Do others have this?

I have a WXGA Samsung X4766 with those wrinkle marks. I know exactly what you are talking about. After the screen has been on about 5 minutes they go away or either I dont notice them anymore, havent figured out which. I dont think they are a problem though. I have yet to see a 9200 without the darker corners. Many say they dont have them but who knows.

Can people with this LCD tell me what Knoppix reports when you boot it? I thought I had this monitor (said so on the package of the replacement screen) but Knoppix reports it as SEC 5557.

Y4014 is the Dell part number, SEC5557 is the Samsung part number.......same beastie.

Use your laptop for a while before you make any judgments. My screen 'settled' quite a bit after the first week.
