ice, I asked this same exact question a week or two ago. The responses I got really were not what I was looking for so I am again thinking about going for the 8890 with the internal card rather than the 5680 with the external. I already have too many external components as it is. I mean really, I bought a ton of stuff and now I have no laptop to plug it all into.

I need to know this as well, I had to get the tv tuner taken out of my 8890, so I need to get external

I did a search around and it seems the adaptec videOH is the best one, but on adaptecs site it speaks nothing of being able to plug coaxial cable into it to capture tv......so is it able to?

well....

upon some research (ill be gettin a tuner in like a month) ive come up with a few links for usb tuners for those interested. Now, if you wish to add more, then please, by all means, do so.
Also, i havent used any of these products, but hopefully someone out there will have had some exp with these tuners.

You can also look at the Pinnacle PCTV Deluxe. I believe it is one of two (the only one available in US) external TV tuners that uses USB2.0 and can capture/compress in realtime, full frame NTSC videos.

primary

my primary thing is good clear video quality (from television) first. Now, i dont expect hdtv quality, but good nonetheless. The other things are a valued bonus.
I don't know of any HDTV tuners out on the market, so don't expect one of those!

The PCTV will probably give you the best video quality for an external USB solution. It is the highest resolution. None of the others will go beyond CIF resolution, something like 320x240 while with USB2.0 you can get 720x480.

Why didnt you want the internal TV Tuner? I am not trying to be a jerk, i am just curious.

Judging by his sig, he got 2 combo drives and 2 hard drives. That would occupy all available slots.
yes I realised I couldnt fit all that when I ordered it so I had adam remove the tv tuner because I can get a external.

I looked into the PCTV Delux tuner and read a comparison review by cnet on that and the adaptec, and they say they are pretty much the same but for the most part the adaptec had a better picture, because the pinnacle one was kinda dark or something.

anywho like I said.......I still dont see a coaxial input on these in the pictures! I hope they arent just doing it thru VCR or something lol.

adaptec videoh

I have the Adaptec Videoh! DVD Media Center and it does have the cable connector in the back. I'm not sure if the regular Adaptec Videoh! DVD has the tuner or not.

if it doesnt have coaxial input then how do you get the tv signal in there.

All I can think is vcr....which is dumb.

I bought a WinTV-USB Model 602 from Circuit City but returned it because I was sending my laptop back to Sony. I was thinking about buying a laptop from Sager with the TV Tuner already built-in. Anyway, I was pleased with the quality of the picture, although it was not as good as a television. I've since bought a 4760 which doesn't have the TV tuner so I'm thinking about buying another model just to see how it compares to the WinTV.
