I am currently studying abroad in France with my Acer 2012. I live in a student residence with wifi. Here, the network is set up through one main computer (which actually has Linux now) and all other computers in th ecomputer lab (sired) sign on to the net through that computer. Wifi operates through the main computer also.
The network here stinks. I mean, in general, the internet here stinks. Its high-speed and powered by a company called Wanadoo (I think that's the name of it). The network ALWAYS goes out....AT LEAST once every 2 to 3 days. When the network hiccups, you have to manually reconnect to the internet on the main computer and then all is well....for th ewired computers int he lab. The wifi, however, is done for until the tech guy comes to manually configure it AGAIN...that is sooooo annoying. I am not sure if it is the fault of the wireless router thingy that he has on th emain computer or if it is because of my system.
I have asked the tech guy what he does to make it work again (he always gets it to work again) but he just laughs and won't tell me. I know he goes into run and types cmd and then he types something. He does something similar on the main computer and then it works...but a few days later, the wifi is out again.
The network shows up in my availible wifi networks, but as "disconnected" and when I try to connect it tells me there is a problem establishing a connection. It's annoying because I hate bringing my laptop into the lab when I actually have an EXCELLENT signal in my room! here, there are no ethernet ports in the rooms of the residents...only in the computer lab.
Any ideas? is there maybe a setting on my computer that doesn't allow for automatic reconnection if the network goes out? THe tech guy doesn't speak English and my French isn''t at its best just yet so there is a bit of a communication problem anyway.......btw, I have XP Pro. The main computer in the lab has Linux but it did the SAME thing when it had XP.
