4750 External Monitor Problems

Hello all,

After much research I purchased a Sager 4750-V and I love everything about it. EXCEPT that I am having problems when using an external monitor. I use an external monitor and keyboard/mouse about 75% of the time I use the notebook, so the external monitor port really needs to work if I am going to keep this laptop. The problem I am seeing is a faint ghost of the image shifted right on the external monitor. The result is that the monitor image is fuzzy and hard to read. The built-in LCD is crystal clear. I have tried everything I can think of to try and fix this but nothing works:
- multiple monitors
- 2 operating systems (Linux and windows so it is not the drivers)
- different VGA cables
- Downgraded to BIOS 1.03 (shipped with 1.04)
- Different resolutions (1024x768 up to 1600x1200)

I really love this notebook and would love to keep it. Has anybody else seen this problem? Is there any solution? Or will I be forced to send it back and buy a Dell *shudder*

Thanks for your help

I have the same issue. The quality of the external monitor port is terrible. I was very disappointed to say the least as I have an extra high end 17" lcd.

btw, I don't think dell is gonna solve your problems. a laptop with dvi out may.

How long is your VGA cable? Are you using extensions? I had a similar problem, but it went away when I removed my cable extension.

bigtrouble: Well I am sorry to hear it isn't just me. I was really hoping there would be a solution. If I send this back I'll probably go with the Dell XPS which has a DVI out. I really wish I had known about this problem before purchasing

spooky: my cable is just a standard 6' VGA cable. No extensions, KVMs etc.

The cables I'm using are more like 4', no kvm. I wasn't expecting the quality to be great on the external monitor, but I was REALLY suprised at how bad it turned out to be. It's completely unusable. I can live without it, but I was annoyed to say the least.

I hate to see you go dell, but I can understand why.
