Wait untill you start customize it with decent CPU/RAM/Screen/DVD-Burn etc... Unless you can live with Celeron, 256MB Ram and a CD-ROM, WXGA etc...

I bought a A270 from Sonystyle's clearance page manufactured 1/2005: 1.8 processer, 1 meg memory, 5400rpm 80 gig hard drive. Wireless and bluetooth. 3 year warranty with accidental, shipping, tax, etc. Little over $2700. Buy from Dell (the only other mfg offering this resolution on a 17" notebook) and you are going to be spending a similar amount depending upon what games Dell is playing with it's pricing on its systems/memory/hard drive options. Sony's aren't cheap but I think that you do get your money's worth.

They're decently priced in between development cycles as long as you aren't set on having the most bleeding edge hardware.
