also is there any order you have to install the drivers, video, lan, wifi.
how did you get the latest realtek drivers if it wasn't working?

order of install is via 4-in-1, video, then whatever else you feel like. honestly u can put the realtek driver in whenever you feel like it.

u might have a bad network cable

ummm your links seem to be broken.

have u tried setting a static ip in the appropriate range and testing pinging your router and such? does the link lite on the switch port lite up when u plug the laptops cat5 cable into it?

Windows' implementation of a dhcp client is lacking in several ways. Often it forgets to assign the correct ip when the device is initialized. But then it sometimes goofs up because the hardware requires at least some sort of ip to be set in the hardware properties' advanced tab. Anyhow this should help you out a bit.

Device Manager, go to the realtek lan device properties. Advanced tab. Network Address. Set it to an ip in your desired range. Keep in mind this is likely not going to be your ip. This is just to satisfy the whiney dhcp service. Hit ok, close that out.

My Network Places -> View Network Connections. Right click on your LAN connection, Disable it. Then right click on it and enable it. Wait up to 5 minutes (DHCP negotiations usually fail after 120 seconds but some routers/windows settings change this) and check to see if you've been assigned an ip other than 0.0.0.0 or 169.x.x.x... whatever windows will try to set as a default. This is able to be done by clicking on the lan connection and looking at the Details on the left column of your explorer window, or open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all. Repeat as necessary.

If no ip is bound set the ip manually by right clicking on your lan connection, properties. TCP/IP settings in the box, and hit Properties. Hit both radio controls so that you can fill in the ip information; fill in as needed.

If that don't work you got maaajor problems with your router or onboard lan or windows. (hope the last)

Ok I think my on board nic card is dead. I tried three new installs and four dif routers. For some reason i cant pull an IP off a router using DHCP or setting an IP. Downloaded realteks diag util and it says its fine, also called sager support they said they installede windows by way of nic so that cant be the prob, they said to reinstall in order that the manual states. well done that three times, dont know what else to do.

Defniitley sounds strange. There really isnt much to installing the driver and getting it to work. it either works or it doesn't. I'd say your nic is pooched and you need to send the laptop back for warranty asap. They should pay shipping especially if its less than 30 days old. Don't back down on it as a brand new system should work 100%

After uninstalling and reinstalling the nic drivers just to be sure, do also make sure that the routers hand out dhcp addresses to other machines. of course try static ips and make sure that they are in the appropriate ip range as well as double check cables. Also check to make sure the link lite on the router lights up to be sure that there is even an electrical connection between them.

Other than that list there really isn't anything else they can honestly expect you to do.

Good luck and hope they fix it for you asap

If I get an RMA does that mean they pay to ship back to them, and they give me a new one?

Well I went and picked up a usb to etherner adapter, pluged it in and what do you know it works gets ip just fine. So now I know my win xp TCPIP DHCP is working. So now I hope they repair my busted NIC.

not sure about your model, but some things you can check are to make sure the wireless switch is turned on and that the wires to the nic are connected.

Its not his wireless that he is having problems with, its his physical network connection (cat5). We have already gone through the whole checking the cable thing and since he has already tested with a usb network adapter, then that more or less rules out an xp tcpip corruption issue. the problem is most definitely the nic itself.

mikesm1234: don't waste anymore time. get an rma asap from whoever you purchased it from and demand that they pay shipping there and back.

good luck

ramazz, do you know if they repair or replace the laptop?
Honestly, it depends, though the lan chip is soldered onto the motherboard so they will most likely swap a new board in, so you'll have same case, cpu, ram, hdd, etc, just a new motherbaord

Well shipped out yesterday, got my RMA. I had to pay out of pocket, that sucks. $47 from NY to CA with insurance. Anyway I hope they replace the motherboard, they keep on saying that the NIC is fine as they installed by way of network. But the NIC recieves bytes but does not send, I hope they look into it.

Well I got my 4750 back from sager today, I went to turn it on to see if they fixed the ethernet. The RMA says they replaced the motherboard. So I hit the power botton and what do you know, No video. Dont these people check before they send the machines out.
