Hi all. I have been reading this forum for 1 month now ( I wasnt a member ). I have seen that you guys have problems with the video & the bios. I have a 8790 with Prescott Intel 1 Gb ram & 60 Gb of hard drive. I have never had video problems with the games . I have the bios 1.00.10 ( Posted from Clevo itself ) & i have the Video Drivers 8.04 ( which size is 56 mb & not 20138 KB this also posted from clev itself ) I havent overclocked nothing but my 3d Mark 2001 score is 12179 & my 3d mark 2003 score is 3216 . Im just wondering why sager has the drivers 8.04 with 20138 KB. & i have also asked Clevo if there is any Video Bios update & the answer was NO. What do you think about this ?

if you have the 8790 use the sager drivers, or actually, i would reccomend the newest omega drivers, just do a google search for them, and if you don't have any problems, i wouldn't worry about the new bios upgrade, and you shouldn't be talking to clevo, you should be talking to sager tech support. Sager tech is very helpful. Lastly, the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Read this

Clevo is making the notebooks not Sager. & Clevo is Providing Sager With the latest updates. If Clevo says there is no VIDEO BIOS update & Sager says there is , this means that Sager has made the new Video Bios without the permisson of the Clevo. So if you can't understand what im sayin is your problem .

Please provide how you know what Clevo provided to Sager. If you base it on the existance or nonexistance of something on their web site - then you need to be aware that Clevo is extremely slow in updating the site (when it does). Also one post was enough - no need for one per minute.

The only game which ever gave my 8790 trouble was Doom3, and the latest Sager ATI driver seemed to sort that out pretty well (the one released last summer).

I have played the hell out of Doom3, Far Cry, Half Life 2, Call of Duty UO, you name it, no problems. Occasional very small artifacts, but no jerkiness, and not nearly enough to distract. Usually at 1024X or higher resolution, with very high details, and all run great.

Until I try some new game which gives me trouble, I'm leaving the new BIOS and new ATI drivers alone. No need to push it.

I tried Omega drivers at one time, but they were too buggy. I restored my machine back to a solid state with Ghost. I'm sticking with the stock ATI drivers.

I tried OC'ing the machine a bit using ATItool, during my Far Cry days. It was fun but I don't think it yielded much more. Tweaking my video settings yielded better results than the overclocking. Now, I'm leaving all at stock settings.

This thing plays DirectX 8.0 games at ridiculous resolutions like they were nothing. Kinda fun to drag the old ones out (ghost recon, etc.)

For G-Omaha

Hi G-Omaha. I have been reading your articles and i know that you know enough about 8790. I didn't see the clevos site i emaild them and asked them if there is such update ( Video Bios ) & they said NO. I don't say that i saw them on clevos site & i know that clevos site is not up to date but i assure you that i have emailed them for the Video Bios update . I saw that the people that have updated the Video Bios are having serious problems with the drivers. I just wanted to let you know this .

Something else to be aware of Clevo does not do end user support. So of course they are going to tel you no.

gevo,

I don't think that anyone is questioning what you report; but rather what the "source" told you. The video BIOS, IMHO, is probably not one that was meant to be GA (Generally Available) to the public; but rather, reserved for a few people with very specific problems - maybe it's even ALPHA CODE.

THANK YOU G OMAHA!!! I've been trying to say that for the past while, I kept badgering sager tech about this problem i was having with massive artifacts, and they sent me the infamous bios update everyone is talking about, then i was like the first person to post about it. Thank you for making it clear to everybody, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
