A Little Direction

Basic problem: Trying to watch a movie on my TV using my computer running it through S video. I believe I have done it with my 9860 on a different TV. It won't work with the Philips at my house. I know the S video on the Philips works as my friend did it with his laptop. The television is totally blank. It has to be something with the computer as I know the cable is fine. Could someone give me some direction as what I need to mess around with? I figuire it is something with the Nvidia options but they are pretty complicated so I don't know what I am looking for. I have messed around with the display settings in Properties. The only options it allows for is 1. (multiple monitors) on Nvidia 6800 2. Default Monitor on ..... For #1 the options for "Use this device as the promary monitor" and "extend my windows desktop onto this montor" are both checked and grayed out. For #2 the first option is grayed out and the second one I checked. I cannot drag anything up to the top of the screen like I have a second monitor. Can some one point me in the right direction? Thanks ~ Kray

It could be that the resolution you're using is too high for the television, the resolution may need to be 800x600 or even 640x480.

Thanks for the suggestion. I still could not get it to work. What am I missing? I went into the display settings again and noticed that the secondary monitor is enabled. I then realized that I could position the secondary monitor in display settings in relation to the physical set up. I put the secondary mointor (the tv) above the primary and set the resolution on the secondary to 800 X 600. It still doesn't work though. I have the "extend my windows desktop onto this desktop" checked and I get nothing. When I try to have the computer Identify it, nothing pops up. Anyone? Thanks ~ Kray

I just wanted to bump this thread as I'm having the exact same problem on my 4780. Any ideas yet? I've seen several threads like this in my searching but no resolutions...

Display properties > Advanced > GeForce Go 6800 > nView Display Settings > nView Display Mode set to "Clone".

Hope this helps.

That certainly would do it. Unfortunately, I'm running an ATI Radeon graphics card. Any ideas in that case?

This is very frustrating. The above directions look like the solution to my problem except I cannot use them. See below picture. If you look closely you will see how my menu shows "Digital Flat Panel Settings" and "Performance and Quality Settings". I don't have the options like the other picture posted above. There isn't any sort of "+" to click for the Performance and Quality Settings. I fooled around with the options for a while but couldn't find anything that would make my menu look like the above one. I figured I might need a driver update and hop on NVIDIA’s site. Now I am even more frustrated. I cannot figure out how to use their driver page to get the right drivers. Someone throw me a bone. ~kray

is that the exact same driver you're using?

Get the coolbits2 registry entry or download one of the modified nv4_disp.inf files if you want your video card menu to look like the one above.

Svideo hates me. I got coolbits 2 registry. I went into "nview display settings" and I click "nview display mode" and the only thing in there is "laptop display." There is no clone options. There is nothing else. At this point I wonder if the svideo is working...I got a new monster calbe s video cord plugged straight into the svideo port on my tv and nothing....Sugguestions? aughhhhh ~ Kray
