Ok, I'm missing something - how do you get it to see the internals?

lol... i feel ya... you have to go to the taskbar where you select your performance mode. It should list it there.

If not you need to go to creative and download the performance tuning wizard too.

If that doesnt work....

insure that you have the onboard sound installed.. if not REMOVE the SB and install the onboard sound. then make sure to reboot then insert the SB card... should work then.

I do have a small problem tho'. The sound is delayed by about 1/2 second... games look like bad chinese movies with english overlays... have to kick creatives ass a bit for a driver revision to correct the latency issue.

Thanks, Whack. Here's what got it to work for me.

- Install the Creative Mod Utility
- Set it to use the internal speakers.
- Go into the Volume controls and turn OFF the "Mute" check mark beside Line In.

Now it's working

Internals work now! I may go back out and purchase it again

As Whackamac says, there IS a serious delay, though, when using the internal speakers - it's fine for music, but for things like movies or games it's not ideal (yet).

thinking of purchasing this card, just a couple of questions:
is it easy to switch from the zs to onboard speakers by just taking out the card?...then when needed, plugging it back in?
As for the drivers and extras that come w/ the cd, do i need to install the extras if im mainly going to be using the headphone-out of the card for gaming (ATH-A500 headphones) or can i just install the drivers off the creative website and thats it?
if i install the extras, how much memory/cpu does all that extra software running take up, and is it really benificial to have the software for gaming purposes?

thats all i can think of for now, thanks

Not sure about popping the card out, as I haven't done that yet.

Technically, all you really need are the drivers from the website. If you want to use the ZS through the onboard speakers, you also need the mod utility. I would get EVERYTHING from the website instead of running the installers from the CD, as all of them have been updated.

You also have the option of having both onboard and Audigy running at the same time (useful for DJs, PA sound guys). I've gone this route and haven't had [m]any problems yet.

Edit: I haven't been able to install the new drivers on this machine... Gonna try a clean install later this week probably. When, oh when, will they fix the Soundfont latency issue?

Anyone using optical outputs with this card? How is it?

I'm considering using them with my stereo receiver, via a Toslink-to-minijack connector on one end of the optical cable.

Just curious,

Odie

I enjoy my card I had it the day it came out, but for recording music or using the ASIO drivers for VST instruments or Reason, its horrible. I have to switch back to Direct X drivers to stop my CPU from thrashing - which is the opposite of what ASIO drivers are supposed to do, they are supposed to take the burden off the CPU.

So I'm going to have to shell out much more for something that actually works:
M-Audio Firewire 1814

*sign* oh well. Its sad that my old 2.4hghz computer with an Audigy 1 out performs this card hands down for music/software synth recording.
