New Asus Notebooks Info

Ok, there've been a couple of threads about upcoming Asus notebooks and the speculation of Alviso/Sonoma with them...this is the info that I have on the subject, most of which was gathered from email conversations...

-All of the Alvsio based systems from Asus will be widescreens of 11", 13", 15" and 17"
-PCI-Express graphics
-They will all have dvd-burners standard
-Alviso means better cpu performance
-Sonoma means new ram (DDR2)
-New/different battery also
-These should show up no earlier than March, supposedly timed to the new Windows OS

Isn't the next Windows OS longhorn delayed until 2006?

This doesn't sound right.

New CPU? What new CPU? (Unless you are talking about a new stepping on a current CPU)

Yeah, sorry about that, bad wording on my part, I fixed it though, I meant better performance out of the cpu, not a new one entirely...

There's no new Windows coming in March and Alviso doesn't mean it'll be definitely running Sonomas.

I take it you mean that just because it will be an Alviso notebook that does not mean it will fall under the Sonoma/Centrino umbrella?...fine...I'll just post the main email and let you deal with that, forgive me for trying to sum up...

The next gen notebooks will show up no earlier than March in Asus' option. There are a couple things that are going to upset a few people.......Supposedly, all alviso based systems (from asus anyway) will have dvd burners standard and will all be widescreens....... 11" / 13" / 15" / 17" ........Supposedly this is going to be the new standard. With the new
platform is supposed to come almost 100% totally new everything.. From the cpu, to the ram, to the hard drives, the screens, batteries, and even likely is a new windows coming out in sync with the notebooks.

After looking at your sig I think I need to clear things up...Sonoma is the platform, or the name for the new Centrino...Alviso is a specific chipset that works under the Sonoma/Centrino umbrella...even if you get a new Alviso notebook, it will still have a Dothan processor in it, it will just have a 533 fsb instead of the current 400...

Go here for more info http://www.devhardware.com/c/a/CPU/Wheres-Alviso/
...and yes, I know it's an old article that has been posted before but it explains the nomenclature quite well...
