Fixed my screen flicker... - Page 7

Could you do us a favor. If the new inverter runs good for a while please install the old inverter and see if the flicker comes back.
I may be able to, because I am going to buy a new LCD bezel off ebay and drill some holes in it so the inverter can cool better. This way I can keep my original bezel for warrenty purposes.

Although I hate to fix what ain't broke.

BTW, day 2 and all is well, not a single flicker yet.

My screen was flickering, so I rebooted my computer. Stopped the flickering.

Odd...

Well, does anyone feel brave enough to find another model inverter that can be wired up like the factory one. Mods will be in order though as the dimensions will not be the same.

Type in on ebay "gateway inverter" and page thru each one. I still have a warrenty as of now and do not want to start hacking. And BTW, I am 99% convinced the inverters are the problem as I have not had ANY flickering since I replaced it.

I was just looking at the LCD disassembly guide (thanks Fizi/compman). Is it me, or is the LCD cable running through the heatsink? I may be worng, but I would think that the heat conducted would be a bad thing for the cable AND inverter.
Am I wrong?

I am on the second week after stretching out the brass spring and reseating the connectors. I have had no flicker since. Just to let all of you know the spring may be the cause?

Compman - have you put the original FL inverter back in?
sooooo...How is everyone doing ?
question- has anyone moved the wire runng to the LCD away from their heatsink?
That left wire does not run inside the heatsink. It runs under a piece of clear orange tape that is on top of the heatsink. The tape prevents the wire from blocking the right blower's air intake.

UPDATE:

I installed my old inverter and it started flickering again. Now, understand something, the two inverters have minor manufacturing differnces and it is possible that the pins are just a hair different in diameter.

We have all narrowed it down to the wire or the inverter. I bought the last inverter off ebay and cannot find anymore so I sent it in to get a new inverter and harness while it is still in warrenty. I will save the good inverter though.

To bad we cannot make our own harness. After warrenty it may be possible to solder wires to the inverter and the MB for a more permanent fix.

Got mine back, I swear the screen is brighter at max brightness than when new...
If you want, check and see if they revised the harness. I don;t know if you want to open it up though.

Fluorescent tubes gradually loose brightness over time. Didn't they replace the LCD? I would double check
post #133 of 254
I'm fairly confident the LCD is the one I sent it in with, it's not eaxctly clean, about what it looked like when I sent it in. And they didn't just swap the entire screen from the hinges up either. But I suppose it is possible.

BTW, came back with BIOS 0F08.P00

EDIT: I'm waiting for a good reason to open it back up, I'm sure I'll find one sooner or later.

Mine just starting #$%^ FLICKERING after playing BF!!!
The only thing I did was change it to emachine power management??
Well, I'm still debating sending mine back in for RMA. I haven't had a single flicker since I talked to the rep, but it IS an intermittant problem, so...I dunno. I use my laptop everyday, especially now that school has started...it's going to be hard to be without it for a couple weeks

oh well, I know it has a problem, even though it's been hiding for a few days. grrr
post #136 of 254
Well, what do ya know? I sent the 6811 in on monday and just got it back today, take a guess what they did. Not a damn thing.

They said they replaced the LCD screen which I know they didn't. Flickered just like it always did.

They sent my up a "special" rma that is going to a senior technican which the RMA number starts with QA instead of EN. Supposdly it will be fixed right this time. Will see.
Maybe you need to "modify" the inverter to the point that it has to be replaced in order to repair it... (do not take me seriously here, just a joke. Warranty void, blah blah blah.)

That is EXACTLY what happened to me- its called a "looper" Rma according to Cust serv.
I just don't understand why the communication between emachine and Arima is so poor.
I think the problem is Arima. I bet they hire a bunch of $4.50 per hour slugs that have no idea what to do. Emachines/Gateway support seems to be top notch, but they are stuck at the mercy of arima.

I bet Arima also pays for all the repair and not emachines, that is why nothing is being done to improve the problems.

Comp- did you move the inverter wire away frm the heat when you worked on the flicker issue? From the picture it looks as though it runs right through the heatsink.
