Fixed my screen flicker... - Page 8

My inverter has a W720 sticker on it .... obviously left over stock from the w720-k7 machines. I wonder if the older inverters were manufactured better? I have a picture if anyone wants me to post it, but you can't see much in it. I had the flash on and forgot I even had it until I was just digging some pictures off my camera.
I simply cannot narrow it down, it is either the inverter itself or the connection on the inverter. One of the two.

Different inverters may have microscopically differnt sized pins. Tighter = no flicker. I still have my warrenty so I did not feel like soldering the wires directly to the inverter. I wish someone could try it and see if it corrects it, or if someone send me an inverter and harness I would be happy to solder it and try it on my machine.

I don't know if this will help. More just me complaining/joining the crowd...
I had to send my 6811 in twice for an overheading problem. The second time they changed out the "system unit" or some such term. The overheating stopped.
A couple days later I noticed that I have screen flicker where there was none before.
Well, I will say it again now that you mention it. The flickering started shortly after having the hinges fixed. How stupid that they would create a problem after fixing another.
Well, its official, they sent it back to me again today and it appears they did nothing. I called the corporate office and the guy I taked to was an a$$ hole. Basically told me to get bent. So it looks like one more makes a lemon.

I may just do when peng_lord suggested. Modify it a little.

This really boils me inside, I came home and wanted to break something.

Compman, I know how you feel. I have gone through it myself, that too during a time when my PhD research and thesis writing was at its peak. I don't know how some people still recommend these machines to others saying these are the best bergain. Isn't it still not clear how we actually pay for getting those bergains? And I don't care if Gateway/Emachine is not directly responsible for these ordeals. What is important is one gets a pathetic repairing service if one buys a Gateway machine. And, apperantly everybody does need to send it for one issue or another at some point of time, eve if it is just one rubber foot.

I think if we really want them (Gateway, Arima, whoever) to take this screen flicker thing seriously (and also for better repairing service in general), we better start discouraging other people from buying these machines. That is the only way to make them see. Unless their business is hurt, they are not going to listen. I still remember Emachine's initial response when people started reporting the cracked hinge problem. They came out with 4 possible absolutely innovative reasons for hinge cracking. My favorite was "Holding the laptop by the LCD screen". How pathetic can it be?? Only when they realized that a lot of people were seeing these posts in this and other forums and actually turning away from buying Emachine, they decided to acknowledge that it was a production defect. These people are a$$ H***s and they earn their money for being that way. Only way to reason with them is to punch them on their face....

Anyway, my warranty is almost over (thank god)..So, I don't have anything to do with these creatures anymore. Its just that all my nightmares suddenly came rushing back when I read Compman's post....

Pdasg cooling down now....

I guess we got what we paid for with these eMachines/Gateways. Not surprising to me for eMachines to suck ass, I've known that forever. But, Gateway supposedly had some honor behind them, but now I see these two were meant to be together.

And people wonder why Dell is on top. And why Gateway almost disappeared.
Well, both the tech support and corporate office say they never heard of this problem. So either it is a lie, or they are that stupid.

I am definatly going to "modify" the parts so this time they fix it correctly. Absolutly pathetic. Today, looking back, I have no idea how I did not launch the 6811 thru a window by now.

Well, the flicker was gone for a good two weeks or so but came back the other day. I backed up all my files and Ghosted the original setup back to the computer. I'll be removing my ram and shipping it off today or tomorrow.

This will be my third RMA for the flicker as well.
The machine hasn't flickered anywhere near the way it used to- but it's starting to occasionaly revert back to the 1) slight flicker 2) me having to adjust the screen angle to make it stop. this is how the problem started last time- eventually progressing to the disco strobe lighting that motivated me to put a nice dent in the wall next to my set up.
I have 25 days left on my warranty, and twice they haven't done anything but change the mobo to fix my USB issue I had.
So if I get the machine back again w/o a solution- I get to have a refurb machine? Oh joy!
I wonder if I can get a coupon for a new Dell XPS 2nd gen instead
Compman- let me know how you "modify" your inverter. I have had the same issue with sending in the RMA for the flicker with absolutely NOTHING done about it.
As a matter of fact- I was lied to by 2 techs saying that the inverter was changed- confirmed by the third tech who said "oh-no... the techs found everything within specs and did not change a thing".
This wil be my last ARIMA based lappy.
Stay tuned for a m6805 on ebay- coming soon!
Not to get this thread off base, but this will be my last one too. Everything on this machine is awsome except for this. And it makes the machine worthless.

As much as I hate intel, I may have to accept the fact that nobody makes AMD based laptops and settle for a Pentium M.
Well,

For any of you who want to give it a shot, FiZi was nice enough to host yet another guide for me. I apoligize for not being able to take a closeup of the harness.

My m6811 is flicker free as of last weekend, and as long as it stays that way you can disreguard all the negative bashing in my previous post. I will still bash their customer support though.

Lastly, I will admit this last fix, is not an easy one. You will hear yourself swearing words you never thought existed when you try to bend the little white tabs on the connector. But it's worth it not to have your eyes pop out of their sockets when using your laptop.

Dang it, I was flicker free with the newest repair from e-machines for the past month. That is until I read your post... Dang it!!!
Are you being serious????
Unfortunately, yes.
This means I'll get the chance to photograph the connector and make a pin-out graphic when I use your repair method.
Compman. is your fix still holding up?
Sure is.
Ok, I took mine apart again to fix the flicker like your tutorial shows. Everything went well and it's not flickering anymore. It used to flicker all the time.

When I removed all the wires from the connector that plugs into the inverter I noticed that all of the wires hardly had friction when I tried to plug them in one at a time to the inverter. Man, I never realized they were that loose. They were hardly gripping if at all!

Well, all fixed for now. Thanks Compman, you just saved a display.
I was amazed it even worked when I slid those wire on one at a time. After you did this, how would you rate the difficulty of this task 10 being the worst 1 being easy.

Also keep us updated as I had to do the one on the motherboard as well. Everything has been perfect since. I think mine has been flicker free for a month now.
For the mechanically inclined I would rate this a 6. If your not mechanically inclined I would rate it a 10. The pins are very small and require very steady hands to crimp. The gap needs to be crimped down to about 1-2mm. Very tricky.

Will keep everyone updated. Thanks
