Fixed my screen flicker... - Page 11

Sounds like you have a motherboard problem. Get it replaced under warranty ASAP.

And BTW, my m6811 has been 100% flicker free since I did both connectors about 5 months ago. I recommend doing both the connector on the MB and the one on the inverter.

well christmas break is coming so i will not need my laptop so i am going to bring my laptop in to best buy and have them send it out. Lets see if they can actually fix the screen flicker.

Flicker is back for me after about 9 months on my M6805. I never used the glue so it looks like I will be operating again.

I glued and crimped mine all up and it still flickers a bit. I don't want to think about how many hours I've put into trying to fix this.

6805 = badly engineered junk. Sorry to those who don't agree with me, but you aren't convincing me otherwise.

Did you do both sides of the harness? How about the little brass spring on the back of the interter. Stretch it out some so it hits the ground tape.

I brought my laptop in today to Best Buy for the screen flicker. lets see if they can fix it properly.

Compman55, I just followed your guide last weekend and so far so good, eg. no more flickering. I ended up running into a problem with the MB connector as the smallest ground wire pinched off as I did the final reseating. I spliced in another wire and got it working. I went ahead and glued down all the right side wires as well for good measure. Something else people may want to try. I had a hinge crack fixed last summer and have been reinforcing the hinges ever since with non-stretch black auto trim tape. Takes a while to cut and place it so it looks good but its a lot easier to do when you have the screen components taken apart. I appreciate your taking the time to post that fix, thanks.

Even though the flicker is a horrible flaw, at least it is not a serious voltage regulator issue like I first thought. Glad my guide helped. These are wonderful machines when they do work.

Well, I'm currently halfway through the process on a M6810 but...

...I cracked and destroyed the plastic end on the harness that attaches to the inverter board. The inverter itself is fine, though. Yay.

Where can I find a new harness? Would emachines send me one for a price if I call up? I've done a search on the part number and found a bunch of inverters but no harnesses.

Worst case, I'm pondering soldering these wires directly to the board and making sure they're tightly connected once and for all.

EDIT:

I found one here: http://www.partstore.com/ProductDeta...uctSKU=8218167

But they won't deliver to Canada. Bah!

I would go ahead with the solder idea. That is what I am going to do if the flicker ever comes back. Just make sure you keep the wires in the right order.

I received my laptop back and so far no flicker. Screen is also brighter again. Hopefully it will stay that way.

really? when did you get it back?

well the flickering is continuing, and since im now unemployed again ( ) I think i'll call it in and get it sent in before the warranty runs up

woah im surprised i just got a repair set up through the online chat... and done correctly too!
haha i was beginning to worry since it didnt flicker once since i reformatted and removed x64 to send in for repair, now it flickered just a moment ago so i can send it in!

I got the laptop back last monday. Been using it a ton and no flicker.

Not sure if it applies here But I though Id throw my experience w/screen flicker out...

Nearly every compaq 2XXX series as well as most toshiba S Series I have used or cme across all eventually suffer from the same problem. Its nearly epic in scale ... annoying screen flicker from a faulty DC jack solder job on the mobo pcb.

I have repaired my compaq 2110US and 2570US by desoldering the DC jack from the mobo, cleaning it well then replacing with a new DC jack and soldering the crap out of it (not really... lol but making sure it was a clean solid solder thru-thru ) I also had to to this for a Toshiba S06 that had the same stinking problem. Each of these laptops after some time and constant motion/weight/tension on the AC jack while plugged in causes the jack to unseat and not make a stable consistent connection with the motherboard pcb... what ends up happening is a rapid succession of swtiching from battery to DC and hence the power management kicks in and throttles the display output. Not sure if it is the same for these cases and I dont reccomend the inexperienced try this repair yourself as it will most certainly void an existing warranty if you have one... or possibly fry your mobo if you use more the 25W without heat sinking the work area... but i have yet to see a loose lcd connector.. but have at least 4 faulty DC jacks to blame... all of which once replaced... problem was gone.

For anyone that does have the mental difficiency to try this yourself... first be sure you know how to dissassemble your laptop completely, ground yourself w/anti-static strap on a grounded workbench, make sure you have a desolder gun, alcohol, flux and high silver electronics solder (NO generic lead based solders) and a low or adjustable voltage solder gun... You dont want to exceed 25W generally unless you know how to attach a heat sink to dissipate excess heat as to not damage other components with transient heat in the process...

just my .02 , maybe it will help someone.

Thanks for the input, I'll certainly keep it in mind for any future issues on other notebooks, but with regard to the shadow cases, after performing "the fix", I can atest that the invertor connection was definitly at fault in mine.

I'm curious if the PS connector issue occurs more often for multi-conductor powersupplys supplies such as those in Dells, just a theory.
