Yeah I open up my 7405GX and un-hooked the harness, also move the ground-tape and moved the wring around, (put it in a different place than before
and left a lot-of-slack on both ends, why in-the-hell did Gateway/emachines put this wring so damm tight in the shadow case ( kinda makes you wonder about there quility control) anyway that seemed to work, at least for now, and no-more Flicker, so far

I will say that if you want a 100% permenant fix, solder the wires directly to the inverter pins. Granted, you will not be able to take it apart ever again in the event of an inverter failure, but none the less a sure fix. I just hope vista gives good performace on these machines.

Nah........I rather open her up again, it gives me an incentive, that I can open it up and fix it form time to time, been 3 weeks, and so far no flicker
been solid-as-a-rock so far..........

HOW TO TEMPORARILY FIX SRCEEN FLICKER on Emachines/Gateway Models M68(XX)/ Gateway 74

Mods...... I think this info should be a STICKY, I was on the phone with Gateway Tech Support Corp office this morning, trying to get help on how to FIX THIS PROBLEM, they didn't offer me any RMA, and said , that "At This Time We have not decided to RMA any notebbooks as of yet to Permanetly fix this problem, but we are aware of this problem" so this is what the corp office told me...............

HOW TO TEMPORARILY FIX SRCEEN FLICKER on Emachines/Gateway Models M68(XX)/ Gateway 74(XX)GX, MX75(XX)

1. Shut the machine down remove the battery, ac connection, and the back two center screws from the bottom of the notebook.
2. open the LCD all the way
3. Lift the power button plate with a flat head screwdriver putting any type of card over the keys not to damage them (this panel will only lift about 2 inches from the system DO NOT force it)
4. locate the connector directly beneath the volume down button connecting to the motherboard
5. press the connector down it will become loose overtime form opening and closing the lid (so you will have to re-do this from time to time)
6. put the ends of the power button plate back into place
7. push the plate down until it reseats
8. close the LCD panel
9. put the battery, ac connection, and 2 screws back into the bottom of the chassis
10.turn the system back on and test screen
That should be all the steps to correct the issue.
I haven't try this as of yet, but I will see if this works..................

I tried It and it seems to work, but, not very well and overtime it will Flicker again just opening and closing the LCD lid so looks like untill Gateway/Emachines EVER has a RMA FIX for this, like the cracked Hinges(they did ask if I had any and wanted to know if I need an RMA for it), but I said NO, only wanted the Screen Flicker FIXED, so, guess FOR NOW I'll just have to do this form time time, but it's nice to know that they are at least VERY AWARE of the Problem

If you crimp the connectors down a little on the harness (or even better, solder them), it should for the most part take care of it. I'm gonna merge this in with the other thread.

So, I thought may be there a loose connction inside and opened my M6805 to take a look. Unfortunately, all the cables from the LCD looked pretty firmly connected. Disappointed, I was assembling the whole thing back when I saw these three small wires running vary close to the right hinge (near the power button). It appeared that the panel above the key-board (one housing the power, audio buttons etc) was touching those wires when put in place. Actually, I was not being able to put that panel back properly when I realized that those three wires were coming into the way. So, I tried to move the wires away a little (there is not much room there) with one finger and put the panel back. The wires tend to come back the moment you move your finger out. But after a few tries, I did it. And guess what.... NO FLICKER anymore. I moved the screen up and down... nothing.

So, if there is any non-believer like me (non-believer in Emachine suppport....oops Arima support, I mean) who is having screen flicker, I guess its worth giving a try before you RMA it. Or you can RMA it a few times and then do it yourself...

Just joined the forum. My only question which I'm sure has been asked 1000 times is how do I get the top panel that has the power button, volume buttons, etc. off? Do I have to take all the screws out of the LCD screen out to take this panel off? Any advice/help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Toshiba R200-S234

Here is how I fixed the flicker in my Toshiba R200-S234:

1) Remove the the 10 screws around the screen that hidden behind the rubber tabs

2) Remove black plastic LCD cover

3) Remove the two screws from the left hinge

4) Remove the left harness wire from the LCD's motherboard

5) Twist the wire 360 degrees

6) Reattach the harness wire

7) Put back hinge screws

8) Put back plastic cover

10) Put back the 10 screws

11) Affix rubber tabs with crazy glue

With the main solution being twisting the harnes 360 degrees, this method should work with other notebooks to. By twisting the harness 360 degrees, you desperate the short which was causing your flicker.

This fixed my screen flicker.

In Windows 7, click start, control panel, aperance and personalization, personalization, then on left panel towards bottom click display, then click adjust resolution, then advanced settings, then click monitor tab, change screen
refresh rate: from 60 Hertz to 75 Hertz. Click apply then ok.
Now I believe your screen flicker has stopped. Well I hope so anyway, it
worked for me.

Cool - only problem was that we did not have Windows 7 in this time period And this Gateway model and some eMachines suffered a hardware deficiency relating to the screen flickering

cheers ...

Thank you. Thank you! THANK YOU!!

This guide was just what I needed to fix the flicker issue. Also this link deep in the guide points to a very good resource made by once of the suffers i believe. http://emachines.fizi.ca/index.php/LCD_Flicker_Repair

I just wanted to say thanks for this great guide.

BTW my 7405GX runs Windows 7 Ultimate flawlessly. on only 1.5gb of ram.

Cheers!
