7405 GX running at 806mhz?

Thread Starter
When I perform AMD's benchmark (Nbench 3.1) it reports my 7405gx running at 806 mhz. Windows also reports this speed when I go to control panel, system. Is this just a glitch or do I need to make a change in the BIOS or something.

TIA,

are u on battery? plug her in and then run the test.. ur comp should be running full steam when on ac power and ~800 on batt.

It will also run @ 800 when on AC, but dynamically speed up as needs increase, if you have the power profile set to Portable/Laptop. Set to "Home/Office Desk" or "Always On" to lock it at full speed.

There's no real reason to lock it at full speed, though. Running at full clock when you don't need it only:

--Generates lots of heat...
--... causing fan noise as the system blows it out
--Uses extra power...
--... causing the battery to take longer to charge

In practice the automatic throttle-up from 800MHz to whatever full speed is (2.2 for mine) is fast enough that you won't notice any performance hit by letting the system change the clock dynamically.

Unfortunately, some programs are programmed for a lower priority and will not push the clock up properly. For the most part, you are right. There are some instances where you need to ramp it up yourself though if you are using PowerNow! instead of RMClock. RMClock does a much better job of bumping up a dynamincally clocked processor than PowerNow! does. With it's defaults, it ramps the multiplier up at lower processor loads, eliminating the aforementioned issues and need for locking at full speed.

I put a stick of that in my brother's 7405gx, works great!

My 7405gx got two sticks of the Outpost, which works equally great
