Best Time to Purchase Notebooks?

Hi. I was looking forward to purchasing a notebook, and was wondering.... When is the best time to buy one?

Is it when the newer models come out, if so, when is this?

<EDIT> I understand that diff. companies will come out with new lines at diff times... The companies im mostly looking @ are Dell's and Sagers... When are their new lines coming out?

Or is there some annual-mega-coupon-sale that some places do?

The type of notebook I'm looking is at gaming. And solely gaming. Everything else such as battery life and screen size, im not concerned with at all.

Im looking at under $1300.

Thanks~

Looks like this month until march will be the best time to buy a new laptop, whether a new technology one or a previous gen technology one at some kind of discount.

The Dual core is schedule to release sometime 2006. So it is a catch 22....

Buy now, or wait until Sonoma in a few weeks to a couple of months or wait a little over a year for the Dual core...or wait a little over a year after that for ....

It is a forever waiting period and it all boils down to how badly you need a laptop now and how much you willing to spend. If you are just using it for general usage, anytime is a good time to buy a laptop as you will use it for the long haul and don't need super power.

Best time to buy is when you need one.

Gaming with that kind of budget? If you want to be able to actually play the games that come out this year, and not watch a rendershow of single frames, you should wait until this generation becomes the previous generation. So until the new platforms come out and replace top positions you won't get anywhere with that amount of money.

whenever you need one.

I bought this for $1328 from Mwave. It's a great machine!

MWAVE N258KA (AMD Athlon 64 Mobile)
15.4" WXGA/ATI M11P 128MB/MODEM/LAN/3-in-1 CARD READER/3xUSB 2.0/1xIEEE 1394 (4-MONTH SUBSCRIPTION COUPON; ATHLON 64 MOBILE 3200; 1GB DDR (512MBX2); 40GB (5400RPM) HDD; DVD/CDRW COMBO; MS XP HOME)

I would buy a laptop now, if you are looking for one for gaming or a desktop replacement. The new chipsets will be governed by supply and demand, meaning they may cost a pretty penny. Also, these chipsets still have to prove themselves.

So, I would look for the best deal and then snatch a great notebook up!
