Best Time to Purchase Notebooks? - Page 2

Im gazing into my crystal ball... It says that the best time to buy a new computer is... NOW THIS VERY SECOND!!! Awww, you missed it. You'll have to wait another 969 years for the planets to be in their proper alignment heralded by the second comming of Bill Gates.

But if you don't believe my crystal ball the best time to buy a computer is when you really need one. New technology will always be comming out so no matter what you buy it will be cheaper in 6 months and obsolete in 24.

Hahaha CAD rocks! Happy Winter-een-mas everyone!

Anyway, I've been browsing these forums quite a bit over the last few days - I'm looking for a gaming laptop, but I don't want it to be massive and it needs decent battery life (was looking at Centrinos, obviously), but after reading about Sonoma and Turion, I'm going to wait. Don't actually need it till August probably so I can afford the wait.

But since you are going purely for power and don't care about mobility or battery life, it sounds like you'd want a notebook with the mobility x800 (though I highly doubt you could configure a notebook with one under $1300). I'd probably wait for reviews/more configurations though. Since you probably aren't interested in the Centrino/Turion technology I wouldn't wait just because of the new processors coming out - they might drive the price down on the AMD64 and Pentium4's a bit, but they aren't exactly in the same market. I have no clue about pricing though, which will definitely be a big part of the decision with your budget, but I also think that the summer would be a good time. The new processors might mitigate the price a tiny bit and there'll be back-to-school deals with a lot of the companies. Course, seeing that as of Monday I knew verrrry little about notebooks I could be completely wrong about everything I just wrote. That would suck...
