9860 1 or 2 GiGs of memory? - Page 2

Bloatware?!?!

You mean that lean, mean, windblows machine? Wash your mouth out with soap, heretic!

I'll have you know that his Billness could probably write the whole of Windows XP in pure assembler, small enough to fit on a 4k boot ROM. He just makes it that big to help all the poor hardware makers sell their goods because, really, he's just a big hearted philanthropist and we, the unworthy, should all be damn greatful we have him.

Gah! Owned again!

What is this assembler you speak of? Some sort of fancy schmancy upgrade to machine language?
Machine language is like so last century...

::laughs:: I remember the BBS's too..I try not to..next everyone will bring up how kick ass and multi-tasking the Amiga's were

At any rate..I think we've answered his question. History has proving that everytime they say that is all you need.. you end up needing more lol..

Ah, the Amiga, now that was a cool multitask.. *BANG* ugh, ack.. 0(-<

hehe

I had one of those Amigas! Hooking 2 of those up together and playing F-16 Falcon against one of your buddies was the shiznit! Had a C-64 and a Vic-20 too, complete with tape drive!
Had 4 Amigas at one time, Falcon was awesome. Never had a Vic 20, I went the spectrum route with the superfly microdrives. I was also one of the sad losers who bought a Tatung Einstein for the extortionate price of 400 quid thinking I was the dog's, boy was I wrong!

I have 2gigs on my home system, and i can tell you it makes a difference in EQ2 and HL2. People who say 1gig is more than enough, and 2 gigs is a waste, are the same people just last year saying 512mb is enough, and 1gig was a waste.

Will your performance increase by 100% by going to 2gig? Of course not, but depending on the games, you will see an improvement. In Lineage2 or WoW, you won't see any increases, but going from 1gig to 2gig in EQ2 gave me at least 30% increase in performance.

I think the consensus is that 2 Gigs is of limited or no benefit for most programs, games, and typical computer use situations today but that soon 2 Gigs will become more of an obvious benefit. I opted to go with a 1 Gig chip, leaving the extra RAM slot for potential future upgrade. It has been my experience that RAM prices tend to fall over time, so if you can wait to upgrade to 2 Gigs for a year or more, that may make a significant difference in price without making a noticeable difference in your computer's performance.

Same on my end.. EQ2 though has a memory leak which is the main part of why 2 gigs in that game is better then one..
