I want a new lappy myself...but I use this 600m for work, and I like the fact that I dont really care if it gets broken or stolen...only paid 1100 for it on the dell outlet with a LOT of coupons in 2003. A new one id worry about. and next time around I wanna go Voodoo for a laptop..they look so cool

I must admit that I am amazed at ppl buying laptops annually. I guess we all have to spend our $$ on something...no wonder U$ is so dependant upon china to subsidize our spending From the responses, I don't feel too guilty to upgrade my 8100 now. Regarding the ppl who return alot of laptops, doesn't Dell charge a restocking fee and don't you have to pay for shipping?? Retaillers are starting to crack down on serial-returners...does Dell?

no u don't have to pay a restocking fee, most cases you don't even have to pay shipping back to dell but sometimes you do. This is what happens though when you sell everything over the internet and not in stores. Alot of people can't go to a kiosk to try out and look @ all the new models that are out, they rely on the pics online.

Wow so you have a 700m and 9200? Sorry for being nosey, why did you get both? 9200 for gaming...700m when out and about? I am assuming that you prob bought both within a year of each other...right? Regarding tech, its a very, very expensive hobby. What technologies do you try to keep up with? Its impossible to keep up with everything

Just depends on what u spend your money towards and for me it's laptops

Apparently, I buy a new laptop every 39 years as the 9200 is my first.

However, I buy desktops every 5 years.

I used to buy desktops, but now I prefer laptops for work or play. Hopefully PCI-E will allow flexible vid card upgrades so that laptops will have greater longevity.

my period varies from 1 to 2 years
the laptop i used the most was Sony Vaio GR250(fell from the window don't ask how)
The i9200 is my 5th one so far) i'm still keeping the previous - IBM T40, in case i have to take the laptop with me and go unnoticed(i.e. Moscow underground don't go in there with a lap like i9200)

... how... lol

Anyways, I just ordered a dell i8600 with that new $500 savings coupon! and I guess that'll be 3rd laptop in 4 years.. lol

I'm on my First Dell the 700m I took the 2 yr extended on it so I'll have it that long, it really suits my needs and I like the size so I'm not sure I'll need to get the latest thing. Also if you sell your laptop a year or two down the road you'll barely get anything for it..

hello, i think people who buy loads of laptops all the time seem to be stupid and wasting money because they have nothing better to do. i now have 4 8600's but these are going to be used to last for years. i have money to spend but i spend it on my hobby nothing else.

buying new computers and the latest and greatest is a hobby for alot of us on the boards, so it's not wasting money it's spending money on our hobby just like what u spend your money on

depends on how much you bought the laptop for in the first place. My 700m was only 749 so if i sell it i will still make money regardless...and alot of people don't know about the huge coupon that came out so they are willing to pay a $1,000 for that laptop

I am on my second lappy, my first was a 8100 about three years ago. My goal is every three years. I made it 2 years 7 months before I broke down and bought the 9100. I really only use it to pass the time on deployment. My last deployment was in 2002 to the Persian Gulf and it kept me sane and sober. I deploy again to the Gulf in a few months so I needed a new toy.

I like to upgrade about every 12 months. I have my own business so it is a writeoff.
