I've never updated my bios and as far as I know I have the original version 1 bios. I ordered my 8890 as soon as PCTorque started accepting the pre-orders (August 2003). My point is, do the newer bios update anything that I should be worried about?
Hi jeffro - unless you are having any issues then it ain't broken and don't fix it.
Some updates had to do with game play and dvd playback having artifacts and the like. If you don't get that then no need to update.
Well the biggest thing with my 8890 is that I can't run the newest ATI or Catalyst drivers or even the newest ATI drivers posted on Sagers site. When I install anything but the drivers that came on the CD with the laptop I get all sorts of strange crashes. I was hoping that maybe something the newer bios changed had to do with that. Btw where do I even go to DL the newest bios? I don't remember seeing that anywhere on Sagers site.
You gotta ask the *right* people jeffro
You will probably find that the latest BIOS (1.00.10-T1) will allow you run the newer drivers.
Send me an email (click on my handle to the left of the forums there) and put your email address in that. The BIOS image is about 1.1MB so also let me know if you need the image broken into smaller pieces for your email system.
