Tx ASUS you solved my problem, and ASUS members go ahead with new BIOS

After infinite research on web, finding the solution, finally ASUS put a VIAGRA on this site, in this new BIOS for ASUS M6BNe, today i flashed the new 0207 Bios, and my temps go down 25C.

My laptop running on full Performance at 90C,now with a new bios my temps dont go up of 65C.

So, all the people, with the same problem, i recommend to upgrade your bios as fast as possible...

Thanks everyone, and specially to ASUS Support Center...

And, please post your comments...

Agreed... my temperature is lower, but the fan is on a lot now... and for some reason, it's louder than before.
my temps used to hover in the 60s...now they're in the low 50s

I really don't need the new bios, because my temps are very good. They are in the low 40s to upper 40's to low 50's when playing games.

wow, with all this bios craziness, I think I'll stick to version 0203 for now...
As much as I love the newest and greatest, I also know when something falls into the category of "if it works, don't try to fix it."

i think the high temps were just the bios reporting the wrong values to the asus probe. can u really feel a difference when u touch ur processor now? because at 90C, ur hand wouldn't be able to withstand a microsecond of contact with the upper right side of the keyboard.

Yeah, most likely the bios just either:
1.) changed the way it reports temperatures
or
2.) keeps the fan on longer to lower temps.

25 deg C is a large difference!

I kind of wish I didn't flash the new BIOS. My M6 now contantly has the fan noise on loud...ASUS Probereports that it's on 3000 RPM, but it sounds more like 4000. It's really annoying.

I wish I could flash back to 0205 or 0206

Quite honestly, I DO feel a difference... the bottom of my M6 is so cool to to the touch now. THat, however, came at a price... because now the fan is loud(er)... all the time

I sure wish Asus let you flash previous versions!

Have you run Probe to see what speed that constant fan is running at? Mine (which never had temp issues) tends to run at 3000 most of the time with temps in the upper 40's. But it is very quiet. 3600 is noticible. I've never experienced 4000 or whatever the highest speed is. If you are running at 3000 and it is noisy, there may be an issue with the fan itself. Even clearing the air pathway might help. If it is running all the time at 3600... well, that's different.

Since flashing 0207, I have never seen the fan on "OFF"... but always on 3000, even though the fan is running louder at some times than others.
However, I went back to the BIOS and loaded the optical defaults... and now the notebooks appears to sound quieter (at least for now). I hope it stays this way.

My CPU tends to stay in the mid 40s when idle/surfing...

Good deal! I hope it stays that way too!

AuroraS,

If you not like that your fan is On all the time, simple go to BIOS and set it to Maximum Performance and your system will run at 60-70C, is better than 90C, for me the fan noise is not the problem, i set it to Automatic, and my fan is all the time at 3600 to give the temps down of 50C...Now my system is running very cold.

So, all i can say is that, now i can play with the temps using this new BIOS, before, with previous BIOS, all changes not make any effect over my temps and my baby running all the time very hot at 90C and sometimes 93C...

Occasionally my fan goes off. It needs to be below like 44 degrees or something. 3000rpm I can barely hear...

Here is my experience with the new BIOS, first some observations:
The 0207 version is actually version 0207.001, which makes me think it may be like some non-final release of 0207. The reason I think so is that Asus probe reports my fan at 3000 RPM all the time, and I'm pretty sure it's not (from 40C up to 72C it's supposedly at 3000 RPM, but I can tell that at higher temps it's blowing harder). MAybe I'm wrong, but that's what I think.

With the 0205 version I was running 51/52 idle, 57/58 with winamp, 81 or so when gaming.
Now I went directly to the 0207.001 version not doing the 0206 at all. Temps for idle are about 40C, gaming is at 72 or so. I can tell that the notebook is cooler and at higher temps the air is coming out hotter and faster. The noise might be a bit higher, but with headphones on it's no problem.

Another thing is that after initially flashing to 0207 Asusprobe has a problem auto starting at boot, but it works all okay now...

I've also has some standby problems on the old version of the BIOS, hoping this version will fix it, but haven't tried it yet.

I desperately want to flash back to 0206 or even 0205...
has anyone tried flashing with Aflash? Winflash doesn't let you flash back... but in DOS, I don't think they can stop you.
I'm tempted to make a bootable CD and use Aflash...

This fan noise annoys me.

i am not very happy about Asus not updating the drivers since October 2004, why the new bios not listed there?

It's possible to roll-back the BIOS if you are unhappy with 0207. I rolled back to 0206 (and I am very happy) using a technique found here:
