Those are perfect choices IMHO TJ. I see you looked at my post and did your homework.

If noise is not a factor as it is with me - I don't mind a reasonable amount of noise for performance - then you can get something with more CFM. The SilenX's push a lot of air though.

You may want to put a duct mod on it to optimize flow projection between fan and heatsink.

Additionally, a drive fan like this cross flow model may run the inside case temp down 2-3 degrees.

You could add a butt ugly thermoelectric unit to a front bay which would "air condition" the inside, but I would vote against it since it is like the proverbial d**k on the forehead look. Here is the unit that I at referring to.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

If I were you, I would get a Maze 4 AMD water block from Danger Den, add conversion couplers, and ordder a discontinued Corsair/Delphi Hydrocool 2000 EX. You can probably find one still for about $2000 and cool solely the cpu. Highly recommended. And since you case is not overly large and external WC kit, wold be the best solution.

If you need help on liquid cooling, drop me a line.

Hmm...a $2000 CPU cooling solution? I'll have to look into that.

Seriously though, I don't think I want (or have the expertise) to delve into liquid cooling. As for the air conditioner unit, you're right, that thing is ugly. I'd just remove the side panel before I bothered with something like that.

As for the SilenX, a single 120mm fan runs $25 alone, which seems extreme considering how much a similar Panaflo model is (about $11). The Panaflo has a 10 point higher CFM, but it runs at 30 dba. Is this a noticeable difference considering the other fans I have in this rig? Will I even hear it?

I checked at jab-tech.com (never heard of them, but they have great prices and good reseller ratings), and I can get the XP-120, the Panaflo fan, some Arctic Silver 5, and two NV Silencers for my video cards for about $110 shipped. If I were to go with the SilenX fan, I can only find them at 3DCool.com and that heatsink/fan/AS5 combo is about $90 by itself. I'm thinking I'll go with the combo at jab-tech. My only concern is if I should get the Silencers or not. I'd love to have them, but I'd be worried installing them and I think they'd void the warranty on the video cards. What do you think Agile? Oh, and thanks a lot for your advice. It's greatly appreciated.

Now here's an interesting twist. I downloaded Everest and it's reporting my CPU temperature at about 40C idle, 44C after running 3DMark03 and 3DMark05 back-to-back. At the same time, Asus Probe is saying my CPU temperature is 50C idle (I had just turned on the PC), and 66C after the two benchmarks ran. In Everest, there's a third temperature called "Aux" that is matching up with the CPU temperature in Asus Probe. So, to clarify, here's the temps I'm getting according to various programs:

Everest:
CPU Idle: 38C
CPU After benchmarks: 44C
Motherboard Idle: 44C
Motherboard After benchmarks: 46C
Aux Idle: 53C
Aux After benchmarks: 66C

Asus Probe:
CPU Idle: 53C
CPU After benchmarks: 66C
Motherboard Idle: 44C
Motherboard After benchmarks: 46C

nVidia Display Properties: Temps
GPU 1 core Idle: 54C, Ambient Temperature 75C
GPU 2 core Idle: 50C, Ambient Temperature 68C
GPU 1 After benchmarks Idle: 58C, Ambient Temperature 79C
GPU 2 After benchmarks Idle: 54C, Ambient Temperature 72C

Which is right, and are these temperatures worrisome after all? Remember, this is an SLI rig with two video cards, two 10,000RPM hard drives, and an FX-55, so it will obviously run hotter than most other computers.

My bad. the Hydrocool is $200. Sorry - typo.

You won't need expertise just some gumption. You have me to help you man.
Its a cakewalk.

here

They will be hard to find soon. Corsair is designing a new one.

Your temps look fine, but I'd go with the new cpu heatsink anyway. Don't worry about the vid cards. You shouldn't void any warranties with such changes.

Oh, and you'll hear the 30 dba fan, for sure. It may be a nice hum though, you never know. :-)
