Apple IPOD w/ Our Cool Notebook?!

Well, this is not a notebook discussion thread, but it is a notebook gadget addon.

Anyone seen the new IPOD?

I like how at the very bottom under the cautions it says "do not eat ipod shuffle" lol.

CNEt ripped that thing apart in it's review. It only gets 12 hours of batter life for a FLASH drive player. Not to mention there's no screen so you can't see what your switching to. Also it's expensive.

However, its small, white, and related to the iPod, it will sell shedloads

Anyone know a proper flash drive that is around the same physical dimensions? I'm after a small one.

Eh? Youve just said exactly what i said, but as if you were correcting me?!

yeh, is pretty sweet that u can just plug it into your puter to charge it. the packaging is slick. lanyard and earphones. no mess of cables and power adapters, etc. personally i would like a screen. i have a 512MB MPIO that i use primarily for working out, is likely about the size of the shuffle. for the most part i don't use the screen, but for tweaking the equalizer, using it as a radio, voice recorder, etc., the screen is nice. but then i'm not sure the shuffle has all of these capabilities so it may be a non issue. let's hope the battery doesn't take a crap on us after a year like the big iPods have been known to do eh? i'd pick one up quick if my MPIO wasn't treating me so well, it uses a rechargable AAA, but since i also use those for other appliances i don't consider it a big deal to charge and rotate them. gotta save the planet u know.

why the hell didn't apple put a screen on this thing!!!

can you imagine shifting through 120 songs, or even 240 just to find the one you want to listen to? apple, you disapoint me....
Simple: Screen raises the production cost, power consumption and overall "reliability" of the unit (i.e. more gadgets mean more potential problems).

Right now its just an amp on a flash drive with a headphone jack and a tiny rechargeable battery. Its about as complicated electronically as a pack of gum.

Also, that's why they're calling it the "Shuffle." It only plays, I believe, on random or shuffle mode. If you don't want to hear a song, I guess don't put it on there or skip past it.

pretty pointless since so many other flash players have 20 hour+ battery life, a multi-line screen, charge thru USB, and cost less.

Compare versus the Creative MuVo line. I know their CEO made something of an ass of himself yesterday, but the MuVo line has been around for a few years now. It is about the same size, plugs into a USB port directly, *has a screen* and can be used as drag and drop. Plus you can find it for about the same price as the iPod Shuffle. Or, for a few dollars extra, you can get one with a built in FM tuner. If you're going for a non-expandable flash player, the MuVo seems like a great solution.

(No, I don't work for Creative )

Actually, I saw the MuVo 1GB of theirs. Not too bad, but @ 179.00 it is pretty pricey.

Sandisk has a 1GB version as well with FM Tuner, for around 149.00

Or you can get a Lexar jumpdrive mp3 player for their flash drives. Not the best mp3 player in the world, but adding extra storage is simply a case of buying another memory stick. And I got a 1GB for less than $100 altogether.
But ok, it doesn't look as sexy as the iPod shuffle. But it's got a screen...
For the size of the memory its rather cheap... I think? But other than that it looks like a cool toy. The kind you'd use for two weeks then dig out your walkman and burnt cds and never use it again.
I love the do not eat thing though.

why are apple products and their marketing so gimmicky. it's like they're telling us we only want to listen to our music on shuffle. because it'll be a new experience each time. what a load of garbage. i can't believe ppl are buying into that. it doesn't even look that cool... it's just a WHITE STICK. minimalizism at its minimalist. gimme a break.
