So is the Acer TravelMate 8100 using DDR2 333 or DDR2 533? The specs listed above said 333, but this review: http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/...100/index.html shows ddr2 533. Or is that going to be a config option? Looks incredible if it is the latter.

This is about the best advice one can receive when it comes to the idle purchasing mode. It is unfortunate that there is still an additional wait considering all the delays Intel had; one would assume that the ODM would have been more than ready given the time of the final release.

My predictions, I think the wait for most of us will end in the spring. I expect that the most wanted models/features will be available between March-May.

Thus far it is known that is when the IBM T43p will ship. Fujitsu will have its' slates updated during the latter part of that period.

Off topic. What is going on with the Azalia sound system?

It's DDR2 533. The US website made a typo. (Just check the Global or Canadian website.)

Thanks, Grahf. Looks like a nice laptop to me. Since I'm not buying a new one until August or so, there better be some competition by then.

man if that asus had x700 it would be the best laptop I have ever seen. I'd buy it in a heart beat.

I still say the Acer looks better. That Asus V6V sort of look funny in a way. The palm rest area seems a bit long ahahha

Impressive! Looks like Asus is revamping their entire line for the Sonoma platform. This is good news indeed. One thing not listed on that site, but listed elsewhere, is the W1Na, which is essentially a Sonoma version of the W1N.

click on the www.clubic.com review at the bottom and translate to english

it does say i915GM chipset with integrated graphics

For this test of the Sonoma platform, Asus could forward to us his very first portable computer PCI-Express train, in fact the MÃ. Taking again the frame of the series M6000, the last-born child of Asus profit of a screen 15.4 inches with the format wide. The portables M6 d' Asus having already been tested on several occasions in our columns we will hardly be delayed on the physique of the MÃ which remains identical to the preceding models. At most let us underline the appearance of new a touchpad chrome and the relooking of the button of startup to less violent blue lighting. The MÃ adopts, in the version which we received, most powerful of the processors Pentium M, with given rhythm model 770 with 2.13 GHz. This one is assisted by 1 Go of memory DDR2 distributed on two Kingston bars of 400 MHz and Asus uses here the chipset i915GM with integrated graphic solution. The storage part consists of a hard disk Hitachi of a capacity of 80 Go for a speed of 5400 rpm and of an engraver of DVD 8x of Matshita mark. Supporting the engraving of Cd-r/rw, Dvd-r/rw, DVD+R/RW and double DVD+R sleep, the engraver is compatible CD-Text and just 2 Mo of buffer memory in addition to BurnProof technology. Always in this field, Asus did not forget the slots to accomodate the memory boards with the formats Memory Stick, Secure Digital/MMC and xD Picture Card.

Asus MÃ

Connectivity without wire is dealt with here by new controller INTEL, Wireless 291ÄBG, and for the first time Asus integrates, in addition to the IRDA, a support of Bluetooth technology. One will note for the small history that the software stack used is signed Toshiba. For the part Ethernet network, Asus proposes a controller Marvell Yukon to us who supports Gigabit. Dealing with the USB 2.0 and FireWire 400, the MÃ embarks a codec Realtek ALC861 compatible with the INTEL High Definition Audio and connected to a system of high speaker baptized Dual Stereophony. It is a question for Asus of dissimulating two high speakers under the screen and two high speakers, dedicated more specifically to low, under the frame of the portable. Failing to propose moults left audios analogical, the MÃ has a connector SPDIF. A word finally on the system of cooling of the animal. If the graphic part does not cause a particular harmful effect, one is more surprised to note than at the end of several operating hours memory DDR2 of Kingston does not warm up finally that enough little while at the same time any particular cooler is not set up to cool it. Besides let us make a digression to specify that if memory DDR2 is always with the So-dimm format, only the DDR2 is usable in the portable of Asus which having only one port report sees the position of a slightly moved notch making impossible the insertion of memory GDR So-dimm traditional. On the other hand the system of cooling thermobabbited of the processor proves noisier than before even if it is relatively effective the portable being only seldom ebullient. Asus surmounted here the core of Pentium M of a heat pipe out of copper leading to a coppered radiator on which breath a ventilator of the squirrel-cage type. The flow of air in the system is rather well conceived and one notes the presence of various air flaps under the base of the portable. Let us finish by some words on the battery delivered by Asus, a completely traditional model eight cells of 4400mAh offering an announced endurance exceeding the four hours. During our tests we raised a very pretty endurance of 4 hour and 56 minutes.

Now that a laptop I would by on the spot.

From my poor french I gathered it has:

Pentium M i915 Chipset (Sonoma) @ 2.13 Ghz
PCI-e Express
ATI X700 (64md or 128mb VRAM) not sure though
DDR2 400 MHz

What screens id it coming with. Same wxga as the M6BNe maybe since its the same chasis, hopefully they will upgrade to a wsxga.

Well anyuways keep us posted on this knew machine. Not on asus website yet.
I'm sorry to tell you this but the Asus M6A doesn't use the X700 but the integrated Intel graphic card.

Now that ruin a perfectly nice laptop...

I mean really WTF is asus doing.

Tell that if you put a X700 w/ 128, put wsxga and Sonoma on the M6BNe it would become the hottest laptop ever.

Where are u getting your info Grahf, just curious cause I have not benn able to find anyuthing on a western site, can't speek japaneas, corean, chineas or anu other

From that french review on sonoma linked here it didnt state that the machine they used had the X700 or 6800 but the point of the article was it test these components w/ sonoma.

I don't know hopefully you're wrong, eventhough you probably got that from somewhere.

I'm not asking where can I buy the one I thought cause its too soon, but if it came out I'd love to have it.

Guess the M6BNe is the right chose afterall. B/cause only the sonoma and trading dedicated 9700 64mb for integrated graphics does not cover any price increment that Im sure it will have.

From all the new products I've seen, only the Acer 8100 really interests me. If the Eurocom is somewhat accurate then the new Clevo offereing will be considered as well.

I'll keep wishing for something with a 6800 go or x800 in this class, but I'm pretty much resigned to going with an x700. Maybe we'll get lucky and Twinhead will release a semi-rugged sonoma with an x700.
Bah! The M6A has integrated graphics.
