Problems connecting to corporate network

Hi All,

Having a really strange problem connecting to the network at work. Till 2 days ago, i had no problem connecting to the network - I didn't have to get on a domain etc. I just came to work, plugged my Sager 3790 in and was online right away. Then, 2 days ago, I came into work and suddenly, i could not get online anymore.
1. Checked that I was getting an IP and that seemed ok.
2. Looked for the light on the network card and tha seemed to blink ok indicating a proper connection.
3. Checked the physical cable connection to the wall - ok.
4. Checked the cable by conecting it to another work laptop, the laptop was able to access the net just fine.
5. Took my sager home and connected it at home - the sager went online.

So - to this point I narrowed the problem down to a non-hardware issues. The ethernet port seems to be fine.

Then I went to a coupe of different rooms in the office and there is only one that my laptop works in - I noted the IP that I was getting from the DHCP server (let's call this ipA) . For all the other rooms where I could not get online, I noted the ip, they were all the same(Let's call this ipB). I figured, let me be clever, manually set the ip of the computer to ipA and take it to a room that didn't previously work - to my dissapointment - it didn't work.

So it's not an IP problem as far as I can tell.

I talked to the support guy at work - he mentioned that since the company frowns upon 3rd party laptops at work - they may have blocked my computer???? How can they do this? We have a lot of people that come in and out of the company that use the network so I can't see how they would know the computer name.

I am at wits end about how to get online. Any ideas?

The admin probably setup a proxy server or the gateway got changed or there isn't any dns. I can see any number of things that could have changed. Your network node type may have changed. I would talk the powers thqt be and see what they say.
