Looking to purchase Notebook...

I want to purchase a notebook and have no idea which one to get. I have been told the Toshiba is the best to buy, where notebooks/laptops are concerned. Any comments on this? I just need speed and good performance. I do not want anything that is going to keep having problems. Please advise. Thanks.

If you can't afford to have any problems, the only two notebook manufacturers that I know of that excel at at build quality are IBM and Apple. But you do pay a price premium for these laptops. If you want a decent laptop for a decent price I would reccomend a Toshiba M30X. You custom build them on Toshiba's website and can put a 2.0 dothan in them as well as a mobility 9700. But again, if you can't afford problems, IBM or Apple.

I've had Sager, Dell, Gateway, Compaq, HP, IBM and Toshiba. Compaq and Gateway were the ones that I had the biggest problems with. But.....

Even the best will lemon-up on ya sometimes.

I've owned an IBM as well as an Acer before trying Toshiba. I have an a70-sc1. I had the same problem as many people with the machine not having sound or waking up after hibernation so I disabled hibernation and have had no problmes since. EVERY computer will have it's issues. Salesmen at several different stores reccomended Toshiba over all other brands and there are a few good reviews of Toshiba overall.

There are some issues noted in this forum regarding static and the speakers, as well there was been a recall from Toshiba of some machines with faulty memory modules. If you buy a new machine from Toshiba manufactured in the past few weeks the problem has been corrected.

All in all I love my A70, it is built well, seems tough and does everything I need. I'm on the road 1 week a month and it travels well too.

I have had a variety of IBMs and Toshibas. Each have their pluses and minuses but overall both are very reliable. I currently have a Tosh Sat A70-DD100E (Cdn version) which doesnt seem to have the static/sound issues that some other A70/A75 models do. I dont do any gaming so it performs very well for my needs
