IBM X24 mini review

I have a beast of a desktop, I really couldnt justify spending 2K+ on a laptop (can only play on one heh) So... I just got my IBM X24 from ibm.com. its refurbished, but was cheap cheap and I really cant find anything that dosent look new on it. The case is immaculate, no dead pixels or anything, im really happy with it. Came boxed and sealed in a bag, new manuals and software, you could have told me it was new and I wouldnt know. If anyone is looking for a really light, small, cheap laptop for internet and general applications this would be it. the rundown

refurb straight from ibm web site
p3 1.13
384 mb ram
3.7 lbs
4 hour battery
12 in XGA screen (fits the laptop perfectly)
The footprint of this laptop is the same size as a sheet of notebook paper.
windows xp pro
ATI radeon M6 (I think its 8mb heh)
1 year warranty

I know I could have gotten a new laptop like some bottom of the line dell or HP for less than I paid for this, but Im glad I chose this little guy, the build quality is really quite good and the keyboard feels better than my desktops heh. now, for the benchmarks

3dmark 2001 800X600@32bit = 1600. hehe
ok, well the tests actually looked alot better than I thought, I was getting 40+ FPS on the low quality tests. Going to install Wolfenstein ET and see if I can get it to play at all.

the only thing thats bad about it is theres no optical drive. but, I picked up the docking station on ebay with a DVD drive for about $120, so there you go.

That 1.13 PIII chip is, IMHO, Intel's sweet-spot of processors. Small, low-power, efficient, low-heat.

I think you found a true gem at a great price. Can you toss up a couple of photos?

IBM makes some seriously durable laptops. Not my favorite, obviously, but they'd be a close second.

yah I looked long and hard heh, ill get photos asap. It did run enemy territory at 800x600 with all the options on low, and was playable. if I had a mouse and not a trackpoint heh, you ever try playing a FPS with a trackpoint?!?? two strange things about the lappy, 1. theres no windows key anywhere, which isnt really that big a deal, and 2. theres no trackpad, only the little red nub, which suits me fine cause I use an external moust most of the time anyway and the stupid pad just gets in the way. heh. latest drivers got me 1859 3dmarks at 800X600 32bit. man does that suck heh. This thing plays diablo 2 great, so anything before that should be ok.
