With all the talk about the new pentium and amd chips comming out should i wait to buy mine?
I take it the price will drop on the old chips once they revaile the new ones, maybe ill buy one then.

Where are the new chips excpected to be released?

Yes, you should wait till Sonoma comes out. And when the Sonoma lappies are shipping, then you should wait for the dual cores. And when they come out, you should wait for the roll-up LCDs and orgasmatrons. Then you should buy!

Since Sonoma is launch very soon, wait.

Don't be difficult Dellbert. I mean, if the orgasmatron 2.0 was coming out in 6 days, would you 'jump the gun' and get the out-dated and slightly dangerous orgasmatron 1.0(beta), or would you wait for the new model? It's simple.

I used to think positively of you, but now I see you for the jaded person you really are. So jaded that you wouldn't possibly take the time to add one of those entirely meaningless yet incredibly irresistible points to another's reputation.

I had to return a 9200 wuxga for the obvious already discussed reasons. Rather than buy again now, I am waiting for 9300.

People who make the argument that if you wait until the new technology comes out then you will never buy something because there is always something new are partly wrong. Yes there is always going to be something new. When I first bought the 9200, I thought there would be something new in 6 months, no doubt about it, and no big deal for me. But when something is coming out in weeks, I think that it MAY be wise to wait, depending on your finances and needs out of your system. The new sonoma, PCI-E and everything is even more reason to wait. It would be different if it was just a new model of laptop to replace the other, but not really any new technology. But in this case, not only is it a new model, but with totally new technologies, a major change in performance, etc.

just my .02

I'm in the same boat. Just going through the process of returning the 9200 because of my disatisfaction with the monitor. I had no idea the 9300 was coming when I started the return but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if it uses the same LCD panels as the 9200! Why would they change it when so much of the rest of the laptop is the same?

Anyway I will wait a month or two to see what other new laptops hit the market.

Don't be a dope...! Of course you wait. There are too many good things coming, including more competition, for you NOT to wait.

Seriously, I think you will be able to buy what you would right now for LESS after the 19th, and perhaps get something better for just a little more. So, yes, you wait till after the 19th. Then see what's there.

If you *need* a laptop for making money or studying, buy it now. If not and you can wait a couple of weeks, then wait. We are really soon to a change and it's worth a little wait.

However usually the hardware must be bought when it's needed, without thinking about it. New hardware will be out each couple of months, always faster and cheaper.

My laptop buying philosophy

I always buy the second-best technology available, and I believe the best time to buy that technology is when the new technology hits. I bought my 8600 right after the XPS/9100 were released. So, if I were buying (and I'm not right now--my 8600 plays WoW just fine) I would wait for the 9300 to be released and then buy the 9200 or whichever model floats your boat. If you buy this way--you can buy a new laptop aproximately every 12-18 months even if you are living on student loans or a moderate income.

The only reason to buy the latest is if you are a true power-gamer, must have the best laptop graphics and have the dinero to spend. If you are, and you do, more power to you--wait and buy the 9300. Of coures in that case you're probably better off spending the money on a high-end desktop and grabbing a third-best technology laptop for lan parties. But hey--it's your money.

I'm getting lazier and cheaper in my old age and will probably give up on second-best technology soon and go with third-best. I might buy the 9200 after the dual-cores are released--should be tres cheap (if it is available at all)

Although I agree that it is better to buy technology that is a little behind the very latest, there is ALWAYS something a little better just around the corner. There is no advantage to waiting, because by the time what you are looking at has dropped in price, it is that much further down the road to obsolecence. Also, I just received orgasmatron v3.1a and it is absololutely sinful; it has caused me to re-evaluate relationships on the whole.

No! No! No!

You should deffenately buy now so that you can waist more money on your purchase!
