mate, the alienware UK driver database is shi*e and outdated. I've recently notified them of this and hopefully they will sort it out.

You'll need the latest Nvidia forceware drivers which you can get here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93 These are the latest official drivers, but there are some newer beta versions about. (note, nvidia releases one set of graphics card drivers that work for all their cards!!)

For the moment if you need the latest drivers for any components of your system you are best going directly to the component manufacturers website.

Hope that helps.

I haven't heard much about the Area 51 5500 Pentium 4 3.2GHz extreme edition with H/Threading . I am at phase 3 with mine and hope I made the right choice. I've heard so much negitive reviews about Alienware, I hope I didn't make a mistake. This is the first Alienware I've purchased. It sounds like a great laptop, but is it...I'd appreciate some feedback from Area 51 5500 extreme edition owners.

That is about right for the go5700. You should have got the MR9700.

Hi Astonut!!

I am sure now that you are playing the phase game you have gone through the purchase purchase and that it has been smooth. You will find that your unit will ship early and on time, maybe even early. I feel bad that you have heard some bad reviews (some=alot). You need to realize that when bad things happen, people complain and alot, and I feel for them, but it seems over all, these rigs and and customer service are great! The deck you ordered is a beast and will work great, and will turn heads. I have worked in the tech field for about 10 years now, and I will say I will probally buy all my rigs from AW from now on, you get what you pay for. I even get a 20 percent discount from Dell and I still got a better PC from AW, thats saying alot. Anyway, keep us up to date on your purchase!

I hate to say it, but you should have gone with ATI... that generation of GPU's ATI wins hands down, I am brand loyal, NVidia and AMD, but in reality ATI made a better chip and referance board during that time... The PCI-E gen is still neck and neck, NVidia is slightly better rated now, but I would upgrade the vid card to ATI and you will be happy.

Since alot of people will not upgrade, get the beta drivers, and the overclocking hack and have the hack determine the best overclocking rate and raise it 10% and you will see a nice performance increase. Beta Drivers I am currently running this driver on 3 rigs and it's a tight driver... 3d Mark will complain about them though.... just ignore the message.

Hello everyone;
today my phase went from 5 to 9! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I cannot wait for it to arive. I'll keep everyone up to date on the 2gig's of ram I ordered with my 5500 lappy extreme edition. I am curious to see if having that much ram will create a heating problem. The 2.5MG of Cache is exciting to me, and I'll be looking forward to it's performance..It's Feburary 7th and the estimated due date of my "baby" is Feb 14. I hope it comes prematurely.he-he..... LOL Astronut
