Our quick review of the test unit is up:

It looks interesting, paticularly since there are anomalies in the graphics card performance. Are the differences in performance in games between this and the 9860 due to fluctuation in individual graphics card quality or a different processor or something? I have a feeling that I missed something.

Have I missed the release date and estimated price or are they both still a secret?
I noticed the plug for TV looks different from the RCA connection on most. Does the small LCD on the Lid top have a polarized crystal display or it is totally black when off ?
Does the notebook down clock on battery like the 9860 does?
Nice review!
So does it have a subwoofer or are all six speakers just satilites?
How is the bass response?
Does it seem quite portable compaired to the 9860?
From the specs, it seems to have awfully high resolution. Is it hard to read the text?
Is it blurry when you bring the resolution down to 1280x1024 or 1024x768?
Does it feel sturdy?

What is this? ...20 questions???
awesome review, nice to know it gets higher scores than the 9860 in the benchmarks. any chance you can let us know what the base price is going to be?

Hmmm. Intersting. So.... an oc´d 9860 with 6800go is somehow the same as a X800 D700T with stock clocks.

Adam, I was under the impression that the 7620 would not support the initial 6800Go becase of its TDP. Is the 6800Go used in the review the updated card with GDDR3? Also, could you please post the GPU core temps of bot the 6800Go & the MR X800?

Only looks like 6 questions to me...

Can we get a definitive answer on whether the screen is the glossy enhanced type?

Thanks

What processor was used in the 7620 and in the 9860? Where they the same processor? Was the differences just hardware inconsistences?
Is the PCIe video module used in the 7620 identical in formfactor to the ones used in the 9860? In another words, are they interchangable?

Sager is advertising the 7620 with the 6800 Go card (the 300MHz/600MHz version). So I'd say that's not the case.

Some pricing info on Sager's website
http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/mag_updates.html

They estimate the 7620 to be out around Mid February

NP7620-C that has a p4 at 3.0GHz, 512MB of Ram, 60.0GB HD, DVD/CD-RW, etc cost around $2,345.00. Compared to a 9860-C of the same components costing $2,525.00

Also the S version with 1 Gb of ram, 3.6 Ghz, 8X DVD±R/RW/+DL, etc is $2,875.00 for the 7620 and $3,045.00 for the 9860.

The 7620 seems to be a tad cheaper. The prices will probably change but it still gives a general idea of the cost differences.

There are several different factors that could affect the performance difference, different video driver revisions, 2x memory modules as opposed to 4 in the 9860 (having 4 modules can slow performance slightly due to timing issues), memory latency (lower CAS latency ratings for the memory), better optimized hard drive space (more free space, better defrag), operating system optimization (version of Windows, background processes running) and even the way you hold your mouth. At the end of the day the difference is quite small, consecutive benchmarks can vary by almost as much even on the same system and the lead swings both ways in Adam's benchmarks with the 7620 being faster in some benchmarks and the 9860 in others.

Thanks Wingly!

The thickness shows on those sideshot photos...I think for a 200$ difference I prefer the 9860. Considering I already have a portable laptop for note taking and stuff that is...If I didn't I'd go with the 7620

I'm still hoping the successor of the 3790 will come out soon though.

Edit: Oh...and I don't think there's anything I like about that little TFT screen on the cover. Touch the ring to turn it on or off?

Nice review!
For all intensive purpose, the 7620 is a 9860 with a 15" screen. It is going to have the same results.

Salilites.. no Sub.
Portable how? I used to carry around my desktop to LAN parties IMHO the 9860 is portable.
No, it's the same as the old 56xx series UXGA. I think it is a good resolution.
Any LCD you run outside of native reolution is going to blur a little.
It felt sturdy, however it was only a demo and quite a bit of it was hand made.

All you need is the video BIOS update to switch a card from the 9860 to the 7620 and back again. We used the go 6800 from my 9860 in this machine .

They were literally the same processor, we pulled the one out of my 9860.
