Windows XP - Install nightmare

post #1 of 31

Hi everyone,
i got my notebook clevo D900 3 weeks ago and still have the same problem installing xp sp2.

First problem was that my usb floppy wasn't recognized from xp install. So i made (a lot of) customized win xp install cds with promise drivers on it.

I succeded an can install windows xp, but i can't boot after installation. I'll get in every configuration (raid 0 or 1 or only sata) a bluescreen after showing the xp logo.

So i sent the notebook in and got it back with xp on it.
Then the nightmare starts again after chkdsk destroyed all the data on my boot device.

How do i get this damned notebook running? The only difference i remember between my installation and the running installation was, that thebios detects an ide drive after the fasttrak tool.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Hello, First forget any slipstream windows cd... I do the same error. The promise 378 driver can't be insert in a sleapstream version.
This occur not only with d900 but also with desktop pc using the same controler (take a look to Nlite forum)

I make more then 20 bootable cd , none of them reboot at the end of installation. I try Nlite and xpcreate.

My floppy does'nt work.

The solution I make a trip to every computer dealer carring my laptop.
When a store have a usb floppy, I ask to try it and find a working one.(I try until windows begin a real install (more step after format)

I lost 9 days for that reason

That's The only solution

REMEMBER : forget a slipstream windows cd for now!!!

Thanks

i havent recieved my laptop yet but i was planning on integrating the drivers into my cd. which drivers did u integrate. i know that there are 2 different ones. the SATA and the RAID. I integrated the RAID because my setup is going to be RAID 0. This is really shitty news to me. Did you integrate it using nlite? I did it manually and I am wondering if u used nlite because my experience with nlite is that it is crap.

@firemen
thx for your posting, but i think there must be a way.

When i got the notebook back with installed windows, there was a directory called $oem$ in the windows path. So i think that "they" used an oem-cd with the correct drivers.

I have called a friend, who works in a computerstore (he sold me that notebook), and told him to bring all usb-floppies he has. So i will try later with floppy (nec fails during one of the recent installations).

So i keep hoping that i will get an usable floppy or a hint to create the right slipstream cd.

Now i go to bed after 18 hours try and error (what a frustrating day).

after looking at the nlite board i understand that it should work, just don't use nlite. do it manually. in msfn under unattended there is a sticky there that has a word document on how to do this. it is very easy. hopefully u can try this way and get it to work. let me know if it works!

@j4ever
The worddocument describes the same way i build my cds. i never used nlite for that, because it will not update the txtsetup.sif for you.

So i gave the floppy another try and it failed.

The floppy fail.... Your floppy is not 100% compatible.
You must try another brand.
I try 2 different usb floppy before got one 100% compatible.
Someone in the forum here try 4 different brand before found one.
So it seem the only way now.

@firemen
thank you a lot, you are my hero

I bought another floppy (noname) and tried it on the store. now the installation finished and i can install my programs on the new notebook.

I hope this thread will help other people who orderd there clevo, sager or nextoc without a floppy.

It's a pleasure,

The best is the put a little advise about compatibility on web page when we order this notebook, so everybody will know about this problem.
For me a floppy is obsolete and never think to buy one ... usb one....
For one driver it's nonsense...but no choice

Take care

@Baron

@j4ever: cool down.

Baron asked for a working floppy and i tould him where he gets one. He is from germany and i named a company situated in germany.
You have no "MediaMarkt" in UK or US, like we have no "Radioshack" here in germany. So whats the problem?

Why do you think everyone must speek and write english? Why not spanish, russian or chinese?

When anyone wants a solution for his problem, then he have the right to get it and in the language he understands best.

Yes that is right.

And Thomas Müler made a joke about a football team known in Germany.

Anyway: I got some new information about floppies.
Teac developed it round about 25 Years ago. They are the standard.

So floppies from this company should be compatible to our Notebooks. I got one and my laptop runs.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Correct me if i´m wrong. But thank you all for the informations from this board again. Hope i could help anybody too.

PS: I tried selfwrited WinXP OEM Versions too and a programmed USB-Stick.
Nothing works.

Sager 9860 rules!
