Windows XP - Install nightmare - Page 2

BTW, there are many people around that can speak and not Write, I for one speak French and Bahasa (Indonesian and Malay) but my writing skills are limited.

I guess I am lucky that there are free translation web sites out there. I suggest next time someone writes in a language that you do not understand and would like to know what they are saying then use one of these sites.

The problem with slipstreamed drivers into the XP installation is the security on the drivers is not WHQL, so in the slipstream, it installs the drivers, but only checks the security on the 1st real boot, and won't boot . . . However when you install the drivers correctly from the floppy, it will ask you if you want to accept the non-WHQL drivers.
I tried 3 different floppy drives before I went back to my OEM supplier and was supplied a 'compatible' USB floppy drive to go with the machine.
2005 and we still need a floppy drive to sort a problem on our PC, sad !!!

Can anybody tell me what brand of floppy drive that comes with the notebook?

I have tried installing windows xp pro, sp1, sp2 ,xp home with an NEC USB floppy drive and it all fails after formating, comes up asking for the diskette
"Insert the disk labeled: Promise SATA378 Driver Diskette into Drive A:"
Press enter and nothing happens..

This doing the F6 and following computer potatoes guide.
I suspect the floppy drive has turned off for some reason.

Can anybody help..I am stuck and keen to get my notebook going

The USB Floppy Drive model is YD-810 and use that in a google search or buy it from your reseller or another reseller.

YD-8U12

Can anyone confirm the problems I am having is definitely because of an incompatible floppy?

Well after speaking to the tech. They have said that to their knowledge the YE Data YD 8U10 works as thats what the laptop comes with if you specified it in the order.
The other one that works was Iomega USB floppy.

I have tracked down a Ye data YD 8U10 and the install was successful!!!

Is your system RAID or SATA? It seems to me that you might have used the wrong drivers, you could always add all the drive controller drivers when you F6 on install. (after you add one, it askes if you want to add more or continue) If your floppy wasn't compatable, it would allow you to load the drivers in the first place.

You would think thats the case but it isn't.
I hit F6 and added the correct drivers and it lets me format but after that it seeks the floppy again..thats when it fails.

Iam using the same floppy diskette and all thats different is a new floppy drive (different brand). It seems the non compatible floppy drives turn itself off or is unable to be access the 2nd time round after you have formatted the drive.

What I do when I need to choose a working usb floppy drive: I simply carry my notebook to a electronic store: I ask the vendor If I can try the USB floppy in the store. If the installation pass the driver loading (second phase when Asking the second time the driver diskette) I take the floppy. If don't pass, don't take it. So you don't have to pay, don't have to return the floppy and vendor don't need to make credit etc.... Everybody is happy. When I enter in the store I ask to the vendor: are you sure then your floppy is 100% microsoft certified? He sais sure. So I said : Can I check if it's 100% compatible. I buy it if it work. Easy way.
