8890 Backlight Dimming Over Time

My 8890 is now a year and a half old and I have found that the backlight is slowly getting dimmer over time.
Before I could press Fn + F10 from the dimmest light 7 times till it got to the brightest now its only 4 times so it should be brighter.
Is is possible to change the backlight or is it something else?
I can't send this back as its out of warranty and I am in the UK.
I am getting worried now that in a few weeks I wont be able to see anything if its gets really dim.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

It could be the inverter Moezy.
That is the small board that supplies power to the flourescent lamp in the backlight.

Mind you it could also be the flouro lamp
Why don't you email Sager and ask them what their prognosis is. They may be able to send you the parts.

If you need a copy of the service manual to help pull apart the screen just email or PM me.

Now thats very wierd because today I can up the brightness 7 times again.

Anyway is it just a lamp that can be replaced or is it more complicated than that if it ever does go?

it is a tricky process but can be done.

I think my inverter just went The day before I fly back to the UK too.

When I boot up, the backlight is off, but I can barely make out things on the screen, so it's definitely booting. When I press the LCD switch in, the backlight consistantly flickers once as the switch is being released - but refuses to stay 'lit'. I presume it's my inverter, which I had Sager replace just less than a year and a half ago. The first one went bad just over a year after getting it. It sounds like there's a big flaw in the inverter as they all seem to crap out after about a year

And to make things worse, Sager's site is down. Bah!

EDIT:
Nevermind - I opened it up myself and found a pinched wire between the bevel and the screen. A little TLC from mr soldering iron fixed her up real good.

You might care to contact the company you bought the laptop from originally and I would give Sager another call.
