ITC Millennia 6200

Dear all

I thought I would like to share my views and thoughts on my newly purchased

ITC Millennia 6200 $3250AUS.. I suppose first the spec

Intel Mobile Pentium 2.00Ghz Dothan 2MB L2 Cache
ATI Mobile Radeon 9700 256meg
Hitachi 60gig 7200rpm
1gig RAM
15.4" Widescreen 1200x800
TV Tuner
4x DVD+/- Burner

The Process of buying this beastly spec'ed laptop

Searched around the internet find a dealer for the ITC..
Came across p4laptops.com.au wouldn't play in the price

Then moved up north to Queesland and came across.. bestdeals4U.com.au
Sent an email.. that day got a response from the sales dep.. hounded to get the sale before Christmas..

Finally got the sale confirmed paid desposit $300 via visa
and sent the cheques and they recieved it 30 Dec 04
(Note.. BD4U state 2-4 Days delivery)

No call back had to call.. Tuesday. spoke with dispatch.. of BD4U and said
it will be there Thursday.. Arrange to have a day off work called up that afternoon.. said there was some probs.. wasnt able to find paperwork.. and said i was going to be another 2-3days..(2weeks so far).. Wasnt going to take that lying down.. Spoke my mind and got it sent down the next day..

Well it only gets better.. from there had my wife stay home to recieve the the laptop..

Well yes it did arrive and arrive it did...
Please see picture

Ok onto the Running and Features of the laptop

Aethetics:

Much like the ASUS M6n model..
Very nice looking although the touchpad gets in the way of typing

Instant On:

Seems to work ok although they state 3 seconds flat.. I timed it and it was 13 seconds...

Thermal Props:

Well havent had much time to play with it (2 days old).. and coming from a ITC Centris 1400N ..(p4 3.06) is very very quite.. but like all laptops once heat comes into play the fan kicks in..

Sound:

Well like most laptop speakers.. crap.. just plane crap.. And only hearing 2..
So I going back to ITC to get my other to speakers that itemized in there description..( and Im not going to accept typo or bulls#$t like that)

Performance:

Well got a chance to install FARCRY.. runs to fast a 640x480(makes you dizzy)cranked up to very high settings a slight drop in framerate.. so dropped it down to HIGH setting runs like a treat. no complaning here.
3Dmark2001 at lowest settings 640x480 16bit scores 7601..
and at 1200x800 32bit scored 4061.. I just thinking the omega driver will it do it any justice..

Screen:

Well I was a virgin to the wide screen format.. bottom line not going back to anything lower again

Battery Life:

Well im at down 32% with the wireless lan on.. and running on max performance and at 1hr 47mins 34sec.. Going to try Dachsunds Hare Accelerator and Battery Doubler (mentioned by MYTHIC).. will let you know
But running on my ex ITC 1400N I would have been on power by now..

Wireless:

No probs here with the Netgear WGT624

Conclusion:

From the laptop perspective... very happy so far all bar two things
3dmark results in comparsion to others.. and the fact that

TV Tuner software wasnt supplied
2 speakers instead of 4
ATI graphics was suppose to 8x not 4x

But this can be all turned around on the respose of ITC.. will let you know..

You should be getting much better benchmarks than that. I tried your 640x480 setting and got over 15,000 with a 64Mb 9700. What do you get at the default 1024x768 3D2001?

Is your processor or card running at maximum performance?

Cheers

Omega Driver

Thanks Steve

Went and downloaded the omega driver for the ATI and in 3Dmark2001

recieved 10400 at 680x480 and 8210 at 1024x768 so considerable difference with the driver.. although I think there still to low considering the specs of the box.. noty going to do to much more until I get the new on..

Steve.. are you able to send me your config file for 3dmark2001..

Regards Rod
I'm not sure what you mean by a configuration file. The setting most people run 3D2001 on is the default 1024 x 768 32 bit colour. My results on that are in my signature and you should be able to match those with your hardware.

I'd check that your processor is running at the full rate, which you should be able do via system properties, and that the video card has everything set to maximum performance. Maybe the power saving features are engaged?

You are running the tests with the power adapter plugged in?

Cheers

Hi all,
I have been the user of a ITC M6200 laptop since November 2004. The laptop delivery was 6 weeks after they had my full payment due to "Shipping problems" apparently out of their control.

Also the laptop was advertised with IRDA which is missing and 4 speakers of which 2 are missing. (Still Looking)

The screen arrived with dead pixels (4 if i remember correctly). They did replace it with another laptop to their credit but this added to my 6 weeks delivery time for my fully paid laptop.

This week the hard disk failed. They (ITC) insisted that i pay via credit card for a spare to be shipped I refused and told them to ship it to the shop I purchased it from (Laptops Plus in Sydney). They did this overnight express.

I went in today (1 hour plus travel time in sydney) and got the drive and took it home and installed it and then find the dam drive is DOA. Thank god i had a spare 20gb IBM Travelstar drive that could i build up.

I ordered a 7200 RPM drive and got a 5400 rpm drive. The original drive in my laptop was wrong and the spare they sent me was wrong. (getting a little pissed at this stage)

I went to the support web site for ITC they still don’t have the drivers for this laptop on the web site. The promised to do this around Christmas.

The manual has several typos and illustrates the wrong model. I am still not sure what some of the silver buttons do on the top of the keypad.

There was no manual (instructions) for InstantOn (I too take around 13 secs to get it started and there is minimal if any battery savings using that instead of starting XP)

In short I am not happy with the responses out of ITC. I have asked several times about the IRDA with no response at all.

I sent them a pointed letter about the issues that I have had with this laptop and so far all they have come back with is well fix it and pay shipping. There in Perth so they should pay shipping.

A spare battery for this laptop is $240 I was quoted today which is a bit rich.

There is a grill around the top of the keyboard that contains the InstantOn feature buttons and the Power Button. This is a small holed grill that traps and holds dirt. It’s a real pain. I have tried everything to clean this but no luck. I did try compressed air too.

But on a plus side the laptop when working is fantastic (despite the battery life). The screen is crisp and with Omega drivers runs great. The speed is good. I purchased 1 gb of ram for my system and have never looked back. I am a very heavy laptop user and do like this laptop its just the other things that get under my skin.

I play World of Warcraft on my laptop almost daily and it (WoW) runs flawlessly.

Ill let you know how there response is about the hard disk.

PS anybody know of a 3rd party supplier for the batteries or who the original maker of the M6200 is eg Sager etc.

Thanks

Ok spoke to the Guys at ITC and they checked my invoice and found the discrepancy with the hard disk speed.

They overnight shipped me a new Harddisk and also supplied me with another battery due to all the issues I had with my laptop. (The battery was also part funded by the company that sold me the battery and misinformed me of its life span).

I was pleased at the end of the day with ITC they did the right thing and did it without too much pushing.

Thanks to Phillip, Ralph and Emman who have been helpful in sorting out my issues.

My final comment is I would buy another based on how things were handled even though i had problems.

Its easy for a company to manage customers when things go well. The telling sign is when things go wrong how the company reacts.

I went to p4laptops.com.au and found the deal for the 6200.

It looked awesome.

Then i decided to look up reviews and saw this one.

All I can say is thanks - i will definately not be purchasing this laptop. That customer service sounds terrible. Thanks for the heads up...

Unfortuantly there were issues with the above two orders, some caused by us (Incorrect specs which has been rectified) some caused by the manufacturers (Delays) and one caused by a third party courier company between the reseller and Rodney (Cracked screen), However at the end of the day both customers seem to be happy.

Feel free to call us to have a chat to see how our customer service is or have a search around the rest of the forums to see what others think.

Have a nice day

I can vouch for ITC, these guys really are awesome! I've been a computer hobbyist/professional for over 14 years and have never encountered better customer service from any other source in the IT industry. I've dealt with James (sales) and Emman (technical support) on numerous occasions with the last 3 ITC laptops I've owned (I'm now onto my fourth thanks to ITC) and they have never been anything other than superb.

They have good communication, they're friendly, they give regular updates, they offer very quick turnarounds on returns, fast shipment on goods in general and they offer a no fuss warranty and good after sales support. I've owned Mitac (non-existent customer support) and HP laptops before (better but still no cigar), I've worked with Toshiba, IBM and DELL systems for years and none of these companies offers the same level of personalised customer service and support.

Anyway, just my 0.02 (and no I don't work for them or get paid any commissions or kudos for saying this - I'm just passing on my experience, these guys are top notch).

Hey Guys,

Thanks for your responses.

Well - I guess I'm going to reconsider the ITC laptop.

How is the screen on the 6200? Bright? Sharp?

Thanks,
JP.

Subject:Return of laptop 6200

Dear Rodney,

I will not beat about the bush. In my mind you are illegally in possession of one of our 6200 laptops. I suggest you get down off your high horse and email back how we can get back our computer NOW. We have been in contact with ITC and have been informed that your needs were attended to. Our legal advice is that it is NOT your right to withhold goods that do not belong to you. We have been exceedingly patient with you, but our patience is now exhausted.

Thanking you in advance for your co-operation for emailing us a time and place that our laptop may be picked up from. (Alternatively please Direct Deposit $3250 into our Bank account and we will post you a Tax Invoice for your records.)

Peter

Please don't patronize me with your legalities and your demoralizing antic's. Show some professionalism if you know the meaning

Now if BD4U had any sense of customer focus and a little thing called communications( which frankly in non existence)

issues like this would never arise.

30th Dec 2004 Payment was received by BD4U. Laptop never arrived until 3 weeks later after numerous of calls made

to BD4U(none instigated by BD4U). Finally received, opened the Box(not a scratch nor dint on the box) there's a nice crack in the middle top of the screen. Not to mention missing equipment that was not communicated to me that is wasn't in the shipment. Now with this said, you must of known that there was a problem with the screen. which you will see when the laptop is returned. And only until the end of April did I get the tuner card from ITC NOT BD4U

Way to go BD4U

What a job Buy and sale laptops.. then pass EVERY MATTER over to ITC
please where do I apply

TEAM OF ITC.. Guys/Gals these companys are the Sellers of your products..

The good reputation of ITC can.t last forever with these type of resellers

Uniwill notebook

i went to digital star to get the same notebook (Uniwill 259ia3) ive had it since feb2005 its a 2.0 ghz, 2X 512 DDR 400 ram and the ati 9700m vdieo card 60gig 7200rpm hd. digital start was the cheapest i could find anyware.

overall the laptop was great to use and for games BUT ive had a few problems with it. whenthe laptop heats up and i put presure on the right pam rest when typing i get all thease crazy lines and squres all over the screen. this started around june i sent it off the digital star for aboout 3 weeks and they said they replaced the system ram but i think they should of replaced the main board.

ive also had problems with the screen before that giving two blue lines through the whole screen. and the build qty was not what i expected quite poor i thought compared to an lg or a toshiba the mouse pad looks quite wack and gets in the way when typing. it looks like a cheap chinese 2 dollor laptop hehehe

the delivery time of this notebook was really good think it was baout 4 days.

pros
good for gaming
ultra fast for notebook
responsive
thin
wide screen
good bang for buck
not to heavy

cons
no hot key to turn off the mouse pad when your gaming it sucks balls coz it gets in the way
heat
monitor 1 dead pixel
the amout of times that i have to send it back to sydney for repair and the dumb techs cant work it out
batt life
build qty
