Horrible reception w/ newly installed Trumobile 1450

I just installed the Dell Trumobile 1450 abg module in my D600 a few days back. I have experienced *awful*, nee unusable, reception since installation, even though the module itself was brand-new/sealed from Dell.

I believe this may have something to do with the antennas, though I have no way to verify this. I literally have to place the laptop within a few feet of the Linksys WRT54G AP to get a connection. However, I purchased a cheapo 54mpbs PC Card (AirLink) at Fry's this weekend and have had no problems.

Any advice/help on verifying the D600 antennas (black and white wires, right?) are actually attached properly? As I said, I AM getting a connection, and I believe the card itself is operating as it should, there just appears to be an antenna issue.

i don't beliieve dell truemobiles work with lynksis routers, you need the intel ones

I've got the Linksys WRT54G router and my dell trumobile 1300 card works great.

Nah. I have a 1450 card on a 600m (essentially same as d600) connecting to a linksys B router and never had a problem. The reception is great.

I had a Truemobil 1350 for a little while, and it had a hell of a time with my router (it used broadcom chip like your linksys). I ended switching to the Intel 2200BG wireless, and it has been working flawlessly.

The WRT54G supports Centrino, so there should be no compatibility problems whatsoever. I would contact Dell, it sounds like you got a DOA card. It could also be the nature of the router, the WRT54G is not by far the most reliable router out there. You would be better off with a Netgear or similar.

FYI, it is not centrino if he doesn't have the intel card. The intel card is part of the "centrino" namebrand. So saying it supports Centrino does not mean that his will be supported.

Perhaps the issue is the card...as I stated before, I have flawless reception with an off-brand b/g 108mbps card. Ah well, time to try another one to test out the bad card theory. If that doesn't work, it must be an antenna issue (which is what I believe it is; I had zero problems w/ this router and a Compaq X1000 w/ an Intel b/g minipci card).

There's not much to the antenna. Just make sure both wires are landed correctly on the card. I doubt it is the antenna causing the problems, though.

I'd imagine he says that because that particular router has advertising on the box saying centrino supported or something like htat.

I thought I remembered a similar sticker on my WRT54G box, so I found it in the closet and sure enough it has a logo in the corner: "Verified to work with Intel Centrino Mobile Technology"

The router does works great with my new i8600 (w/ 2200b/g card.) At 60 ft I get 16mbps file transfer rates. It isn't a speed demon, nor did I expect it to be based on the reviews, but being able to do packet shaping via my customized version of Linux on it sure makes it worth the $60 I spent.

You are right about the Centrino thing, I was just referring back to my troubles w/ the wrt54g. It is obvious that the truemobile has nothing to do with Centrino. I still hold to my statement about it being unreliable, though.

Buy the way, if anyone wants to get rid of their Linksys WRT54G because of unreliability, I have a belkin 7230-4 wireless G router that I will trade. It is very reliable, but I want the Linksys because of the vpn passthrough and some other features.
