You will need to provide the model of the ODD that you have in order to address the issue you present. Also, you will need to provide information about the media that you are using.

It's kind of like fishing bait - We don't know what bait you are using or what type of fish you are trying to catch.

I have had a similar problem...I can only burn to DVD-R media. How would I find the model number of the drive to find out if there is a firmware update to correct this problem? I have tried using Memorex DVD+R I believe with no results.

I have an 8790 that I bought in April, and love it.

Control Panel --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager --> DVD/CD-ROM Drives

If you have a Toshiba SD-R6112 drive then that is a 2x DVD-R/-RW Only. I believe that was the original burner offered with the 8790. There was also a Pioneer 2x DVD-R/-RW that was also delivered.

Do a Google search for DVDInfo-Pro and download it. It will provide tons of information regarding the drive and the media. It will tell you what you can expect for write speeds for the media being examined.

Hope that this helps.

Very helpful...but this is the drive I have after your helpful instructions

Toshiba odd-dvd sd-r6372

upon doing some research, I should be able to burn on + media...so I will continue to do more research on this matter.

Thanks G, always very helpful.

There is a firmware update available for that drive. I posted it on this forum a while back (maybe search on 1032). If you are using 8x DVD+R and have a firmware lower than 1032, then, it will have a problem.. Your drive is a +- 4x drive, it's like the one I originally had when I bought the 8790 (second one, that is).

ok...great...thanks. Performed the upgrade. I then went ahead and re-ran DVD info and it still doesn't display that I have the ability to write to + media. On top of that, it displays that I can write to DVD+R DL. it is checked by Defect Management. Am I reading this correctly? I still can't write to + media but CAN right to Dual layer media?

Again, thanks for your help.

You are not reading this correctly. The yes/no checkmark is to the right of the lable. As such, you do not have DL support.

Place a blank pieve of the DVD+R media that you are attempting to use and accomplish the DVD-Info again - select "Media". If the disc does not "mount", request an RMA as the device is faulty.

Did you update to the 1732 firmware without problems?

Not sure what version, but it was the one posted here by G-Omaha. No problem what-so-ever. I have a new desktop on the way to transfer my files to, then it's RMA for a motherboard fix. This artifacting is driving me nuts. 4 grand and can't use my lappy.
