Gaming Mouse... Is there a diff. between a 15.00 mouse the 65.00 gaming mice?

Thread Starter
Just wondering if there is really a differ between a standard 15.00 optical mouse and the like 70.00 optical gaming mouse you would see in PC Gamer?
Right now im using a cordless Imedion mouse my father got with his PC. Do you feel more control in games like UT2004 with a high dollar mouse?

Thanks,
Prog

just like the buttons on it, maybe quallity who knows, and DPI is probably the most important. I got mine for like 8 bucks and its 800 dpi, has a blue scroll whell but only 2 buttons 3 including the wheel. I dont notice any difference in precision compared to my friends Logitech MX510 which is like a 50 dollar mouse. BTW i got my mouse a Milwuakee PC, dunno if u have one near you.

I have a Mx510 and Just ordered a new one. I simply cant use other mice anymore. It is just so much smoother and faster then other cheaper mice. Once you use a good mouse for a while you can easily tell the difference but before that it may be harder for you to notice much difference.

anyone own the mx1000?

I don't buy that dpi bullshit... above a certain level, it would be impossible for a human to see the difference. Sure it might vary between "office" "mouses" and "gaming" "mouses", but there's no way in hell I would feel the difference between 800 dpi and 1000 dpi.

**** THE WORLD!

MX310 is probably the best mouse you can get for the money. Got mine for around 25 bucks and it works perfect... no "hop ups" in the two months I had it.

Don't think it's worth it to spend upwards of 100 bucks for a very slight difference, if you can even tell the difference.

MX310 has 5 buttons (6 if you count the application chooser on it).

Get ahold of a copy of the Feb. issue of Maximum PC. On p.86 they do a test of the Razer Diamondback. They gave it a 9 out of 10.I bought one a month ago and just love it.

I have 2 mice, one MX500, and the other MX510, and i can tell the difference between the two. Infact, they're both connected to the same computer (so that i can configure the MX500 to be used with windows/firefox, and the MX510 to be used for gaming).

Will a $60 mouse make you leaps and bounds better in FPS? Not really, it will improve your game but not make you godly. As long as it's an optical you are good to go. Me, I go with what ever feels the most comfortable on my hand.

Yes, and I can't think of using any other mouse. For me the immediate advantage is the ergonomics. The mouse -feels- terrific in my hand. The sensitivity and DPI improvement is noticeable from the MX700 and other optical mice. The battery life is excellent - I go for a week of constant use before it needs to be recharged. Also, the on/off button to conserve battery power is a nice extra.

I used to think that $50-70 is too much for a mouse but now wish I had bought it even earlier. I use the MX900 for my notebook as it is a Bluetooth and although I really like it, I'll replace it with a Bluetooth laser the moment they come out with it.

Edit: I agree with Phos that what feels better in your hand is probably the most important factor. I play a lot of FPS games and also appreciate the enhanced accuracy but it is secondary to me.

If you're truly concerned about gaming control, then I would highly recommend the razer diamondback. It certainly won't turn you into a god-like gamer if you aren't one but it will keep you on point and make it a lot easier to improve.

www.razerzone.com, they have links to reviews there so I'd check it out.

i have the nyko air flow mouse, got it from thinkgeek.com, main reason i got it was cause it has a built in fan... and it sure does work great, no more sweaty palms! its one of those things where if you don't have it then you don't know what your missing. its 850dpi. works great for me.

matter of fact i just got done modding it w/ 3 more ultra bright red LEDs, didn't come out as good as my other mouse mod but it does look a little better (*redder)...

I'd be tempted with the Diamondback if I wasn't already sold on the Logitech ergonomics and on cordless. The Diamondback does seem like a very nice mouse. Also, I don't think that I'd be able to go back to corded anymore (use the Bluetooth MX900 with the notebook). Plus, a corded mouse will tie up half the USB ports on my notebook (which has only two).

Well I suppose I could see the benefits of the mx with a notebook over the diamonback.

I wouldn't trade my diamondback for anything though, I've owned MANY mice and I've finally found the perfect one.

I recommend getting what feels best. I had an Intellimouse Optical USB PS/2 compatible for 4 years, and when I had to move to college I bought another of the exact same model (though it had WAY better tracking-- the old one spazzed out when you moved it too fast, but I guess the optical technology got better because this one doesn't do that ever.)

I have the MX510 AND the MX1000. Both are great mice.
The only things to complain are the shit cable of the MX510 and that the MX1000 is very fat, much fatter than the MX510.

But both are much better than cheap mice. In games and other things they are so precise that I don´t want do work with other mice. Except the Logitech Marble Mouse for Office...

But what I don´t like, the Logitech software seems to be programmed by some stupid chumps...it´s shi...
