9860 SPDIF Out Acting Weird

I have a set of Boston Acoustics Digital BA7500 speakers (4.1). They use a single digital input that uses a headphone-type plug. I plug it into the SPDIF port of the 9860, and also set the sound effect manager to digital out only, but the laptop speakers keep playing as well. Also, only the front 2 speakers and the subwoofer of the external speakers play sound, both in general sound use, and in the speaker test in the sound effect manager. I have the control panel set to 6CH, and I also tried 2 4 6 and get the same results. I also get the same results with the line-out plug when the sound effect manager is set to digital out only. Any ideas how to get all of my external speakers to work and also have the laptop speakers not be on when there are externals plugged in?

Thanks for any help.

P.S. The speakers are physically 4.1 but the processor or whatever emulates 5.1, so signal wise, they should be 5.1s.

I'm in the same boat, feeling your pain. Check this thread, though there's nothing new.

Now when using the realtech it was set on 6 channel and test all work. im current short one adapter so im force to use the front speaker on the laptop

Is the digital input from the speakers an optical or coax input, I had the same issue with my alienware (not the same model though) It sounds as though your speakers are getting an analog stereo signal from that connection and using the laptop speakers to fill in the "missing" channels for your multiple speaker connection. That would explain why you are getting 2 channels of sound from you BA and 2 from your laptop. (I am also assuming that the sub in the BA is just filtered out from the stereo signal going into it). If you look at the connector, does if have 4 sections divided by colored (usually black) rings or just 2? From what I understand (sorry I am ordering my 9880 tomorrow) there are 4 audio outputs on the laptop, each will acct for a set of speaker (FR-FL; RR-RL; C-Sub; SR-SL) so if you are plugging one cord in to one port only 2 speaker will are going to work. Sorry I am getting tired and that is the best I could put it atm . . .

If it's truly a digital input, put the 1/8" plug (headphone plug) into the 3rd headphone plug from the front (it's got a little square-wave sign above it). Open the sound manager (blue square with yellow circles on the taskbar by the time), select the spdif tab, and click on Output Digital Only. The computer should now output SPDIF signal to your speakers
