newbie TV tuner questions

Questions for all of you that have TV-tuners in their laptops (NOT desktops):

1. Tell me what laptop and TV-tuner you are using. How good is the picture compared with regular TV? Does it have TIVO-like functionality?

2. Are there any that are HDTV capable? I'm guessing no?

3. How good are external TV-tuners compared to the internal ones that come with the laptops? I'm more interested in the USB 2.0 solutions like Adaptec and Pinnacle.

4. How about changing channels on cable and satellite set top boxes? I was doing a little research online and came across "IR blasters". Do I need one? If so, what companies sell them? Are there issues with compatibility with different TV tuners and different PVR softwares?

4. How about the Toshiba media center edition laptops? Anyone have them? How well do those work?

I'm looking for firsthand experiences only...

I have one in my 8887, but I have never used it. From past experiences (ATI All-In-Wonders) it isn't very TiVO-like for me (and I am a long-time TiVO / PVR user).

Maybe it's me, but I am hesitant to merge computer and A/V center... soon, when "it's all there, technology and quality wise" then I'll think about it.

1) none at the moment, though im gettin the adaptec VIDEOH! when i get my 5680
2) no
3) The one in the 8890 is alright but not the best...from what i hear the software included with the tuner is a POS. Like you, id go with a usb 2.0 tv tuner
