Willamette P4 work on i875 ?

I'm slowly working on upgrading my desktop. Right now I have a Asus P4B and I want to get a new mobo and case to begin upgrading to the last line of the socket 478's. I have a Willamette P4 1.8ghz CPU.

My question is if I get a MOBO with the i875 chipset will it work with my antiquated Willamette P4 processor?

Thanks!

They won't be compatiable because the willamette runs at 400 FSB while the 875 only supports 533/800 fsb.

Actually it's not the FSB problem, it's the core itself. I can get my sister's 2.0A which runs 400fsb to run on my Asus P4C800E-Deluxe (i875 chipset), but my dad's 1.7GHz Willy wont work on any of my i875/i865PE boards.

Anyway, if you're slowly upgrading your desktop, i reccomend leaving the board and CPU alone for now. Socket 478 is antiquated already and it's not worth buying another socket 478 based parts. Just focus on the graphics card, sound card, RAM, PSU and HDDs.

Anyway, your board is great. I used to have an Asus P4B533 and it was a pleasure to work with. Clocked my sister's 2.0A up pretty good and has all the features a modern Asus Socket 478 board has, though overclocking options for a williamette are pretty limited.
