Dead / Dying HDD in 5680

Starting today at 10am my HDD started "clicking" nonstop when I booted it. I think I'm still under warrenty, I sent a detailed email to SAGER, expecting a reply or phone call soon, should I go ahead and call, just in case? Never dealt with Sager Support before (never had problems with my laptop).

Will they send me a replacement HDD or will I have to send my laptop in?

JR,

I think that you might just be out of warranty unless you purchased an extended warranty. See: http://notebookforums.com/showthread...950#post122950

I would still call them and see if there is anything that they can do for you. If they want you to buy a new drive, look at the prices for this drive on the internet becofre you commit. You should look for prices TODAY. Its a Hitachi drive (If it's the 7,200 rpm one).

Good luck.

Ooops, forgot to answer the original question. They should be able to "cross ship" you the drive rather than have you return the entire unit, if they agree that it's just the drive that is failing. You will need a Credit Card Number and they will need an authorization to charge you for the drive if you do not return the RMA's one to them in a reasonable amount of time. Time to call "Dear Old Dad".

No reply from my e-mail yet, so I guess I'll call.

The HDD is the Toshiba 5400RPM.

Would this be compatiable?

And "Dear old dad" will be my extra tuition money. Only needed 200 for books, I so have spare for a HDD, which is lucky.

Yes, however, my choice would be either the Seagate or the Hatachi. The Toshiba's, IMHO, have too high of a failure rate. I think that the Seagate may have a longer warranty period. Think that "Dear old dad" will be thanful - afterall, I'm one of those and know what it takes to put my son through college.
