Hi Gary . I have just one question for you. Did you ever clean install windows xp pro & the latest drivers of realtek sound? because everytime i install it i have a noise coming out of my speakers on windows startup . ( this problem exicts also for any version of the realtek drivers except the drivers in the cd = provided with the laptop ) Can you test this and report the results to me? thank you very very much :-)

I have the original XP install that came with the system. I did install an update for the realtek sound about three months ago. What type of "noise" do you hear? When windows strts up there is an audio "theme" that plays and can be very annoying if the volume is turned up loud. Driver I have is: 5.10.0.5720. They are dated Sept 2004.

If you reinstall windows from scratch - be real careful to install all the drivers in the order that is indicated within the user manual. If you install them out of order, you will have odd problems on one or more devices.

So thank you very much for your reply. I always install the drivers in order. But the problem is that if i install the new realtek drivers version 3.68 or the previous ones except the version provided with the cd and select the autput sound to 2 speakers ( the driver is install like this as default ) with the windows sounds set to off ( the windows startup sound turned off ) i hear NOTHING --everything works fine.

BUT if i set the sound to 5.1 output ( like is written in the manual ) on the windows startup i here a sound like ( geppp ) like a single drums base coming out of my speakers. This happens only with the drivers newer than the ones provided with the cd ( i don't remember the versions exactly but i know that the versions 3.68, 3.67, 3.66 , 3.65 , 3.64 do the same thing ).
I just wanted to ask you that if you have the same problem or had the same problem or not? thank you for your reply GARY

I've had this problem but not during startup. I have the latest drivers and when set to 5.1 surround and on mute at startup, if I run an application I get sound from what would be the "center" channel, but if I unmute and then mute it again it stops. Something screwy with them there drivers I tell ya what.
