Catalyst 5.1 Released! - Page 2

I was using the Dell drivers and my fps was really low considering I have a MR9800 so I decided to switch to the Omegas and my God what a difference. Dell drivers are just crap. I was using the CS Source video test to check my average fps by the way.

What fps did you get? (for reference comparing with my 9700)

Seriously this is embarrassing but the average was around 25fps and that was with AA off but res at max now im getting average of +50fps but when I lower my res I can get it a lot higher around +70fps and more i reckon but i dont really mess around with my settings and go with what the game recommends. Reason I changed to Omegas was cos this other guy with a X800 was laughing at my fps online and the cards dont differ that much so I knew the Dell drivers were crap imo.

I get 40 fps with everything on max in 1280x800... so there is likely a big difference

I got this quote from Toms Hardware Guide -

The driver on the Inspiron XPS showed better performance. According to Dell, the driver on the Inspiron 9100, whose driver core corresponds to the shipping driver, also has several performance problems when it comes to OpenGL applications. At least, this is what our results under Quake 3 Arena show. For this reason, we decided to test the XPS with the driver provided us by ATi.

Once again proof the Dell Drivers suck. I'd honestly recommend anyone to install the Omegas and see the difference. My frag rate has shot up even if its a psychological thing rather than driver related.

My average fps doubled which is amazing but frankly its what I expected from the MR9800 in the beginning.

Quake 3 isn't accurate by any means for benching today's games. 3DMark2003/05, HL2, Doom 3, Far Cry, these TAX a system.

Plus, most people here aren't using Dell's original drivers. These new ones are nothing special when compared to 4.12 Final. In fact, except for a few fixes, they are no faster.

wow the techconnect drivers look tempting. anybody compare those with the omegas? does the techconnect driverset require the .NET framework because it will want to install the CCC? anyone know? i am most familiar with omegas thats why i ask. thanks in advance.

well installed the new drivers and crash, crash, crash... reverted to the 4.12's

Sorry I forgot to include this lil bit from Tom's...We have expanded the benchmark suite to include the game Farcry. "What took you so long?" many will ask. The simple answer to this question is that until now it hardly made sense to test notebooks with this game. This is because the graphics performance of the average notebook is simply too poor. For the tests in Far Cry we use the Cooler01 time demo. It measures performance in an indoor level (Cooler). For all tests, we enabled the flashlight of the protagonist in order to put more stress on the graphics processor. Moreover, we use the highest quality level.

Hope that puts that notion to rest

hey guys, on the d/l page, the first one says "Display Driver,
Control Panel,
WDM Capture driver" and the 2nd says "Display Driver,
CATALYST Control Center,
WDM Capture driver" one is 22.8 mb and the other is 28.1. Which one of these files is the correct one for the catalyst driver installation???
Depends on do you want "CATALYST Control Center" or not? Basically it's new UI for driver settings
