5670 and Damn Small Linux

I'm trying to get Damn Small Linux (www.damnsmalllinux.org)to run on my 5670 with no joy. Ideally I'd like to boot it from my USB pendrive, but I read in a post that the only booting I could do via the USB ports on a 5670 would be via a USB floppy (I've got bios 1.03.03 - the latest I'm pretty sure).

Anyway, even the LiveCD version hangs after the initial boot screen (I've tried all the options to disable - I don't know if X windows is causing the issue or what).

Any ideas? Especially if there is a way to boot via USB... (Henrik's hacked bios?).

Thanks,

I do not believe you can boot from any USB device on that model. I think the first laptop you could is the most current one (9860).

As it is, laptops are dicey when it comes to livelinux distros. Some work, some don't and it seems like versions of the same distro differ as well.

I can get earlier versions of Knoppix to load, but not more recent ones... go figure

Thanks for the reply. That was my fear about the USB booting issue.

I have been able to get Ubuntu Linux to load as a liveCd. I've even gotten Damn Small Linux to load from a cd on my desktop (unfortunately, my ASUS A7v8x won't boot from a USB pendrive either **EDIT: It actually will as I got Puppy Linux to boot from a pendrive on my desktop. Must've been the way I had created the DSL thumbdrive or something EDIT**).

I may have to try DSL on a USB pendrive via a floppy boot or something like that. My goal was (and still is actually) to be able to carry a linux distro on my san disk cruzer mini to use whenever I felt like it.

I'll keep trying...
