6800 with ddr3 available in feb! - Page 2

You are the first person I have seen on these forums who, within joining just 3 weeks ago, has had their reputation drop to the lowest level measured. That takes quite some talent! I think you have found your calling in life.

Perhaps now you can break the record of the only person to now increase their reputation to the highest level within just another 3 weeks! I'm rooting for ya!

No need to get testy, I'm just trying to help & clarify your statements. Perhaps you should think about what you say first just to minimize what others think as Roided or myself (& others) do.

Posting messages that insult others on a board where the whole objective is to get information from them is counterproductive.

Just FYI, I'd be careful of the language in your posts.

Well, seeing as we're not testy, despite our long, drawn out, argumentative style posts, let's get back on topic, shall we?

Other than speculation, does anyone have any clue as to around where the new card's performance will be, and more importantly, its price?

can't we all just get along?

Can you kids keep the flaming down? This had been a pretty interesting thread, especially as I've been debating about whether to wait a few weeks before ordering a laptop or not. (must....play....half...life...2...but....current....computer....too...slow)

response to Arche

I spoke to Luke at PC Torque and said the info he was getting was that the new chip blows the x800 away

thank you for the swift , but much needed change of topic.i believe know one knows this but nvidia . im sure theyre still trying to crank it up a notch higher. hopefully by feb7 well be able to see through all this obscurity in that matter.

is Feb 7 an official release date?

From the FAQ linked in Karma's post:

Gentle reminders never hurt.

Anyways, with the doubled clock speed, I sure hope the upgrade will perform as well as Luke thinks, and of course, that it won't cost exorbitant sums of money to upgrade to it, hopefully without any modifications ala the X800.

im sure youre right on that info. thats why i returned my 9860 . the original card played hl2 just fine at high settings , i just wanted the extra horsepower. if you search on this forum youll see a guy make a hypothesis on the performance increase over the x800 being well into the 30-40 % area. that alone speaks for itself. plus the fact that the original card was able to o'clck so high gives me high and probably fullfilled expectations of the new one with ddr3

no its just an educated guess from what ive been told by my reseller. in sagers site it also says available in feb on the flash ad.

Yeah, I thought about that too. With the original module's ability to overclock so high, it begs us to ask how far this new module will go.

back on track

now this is more like it Now that we're back on track, let me ask you guys a totally newbie off-topic question: I'm used to desktops and the only laptop I've played around with was an ancient beast my dad owned that was barely better than beating two rocks together and hope they somehow play games On that lappy, the screen looked absolutely awful when set to anything other than its native resolution. I'm assuming that the tech has evolved since then. Anyone want to volunteer a quick summary of how the 9860 does with non-native resolutions. Thanks in advance!

It's only my subjective opinion but I've played a lot of different games in non-native resolutions on both the 8790 and the 9860 WSXGA+ LCDs - IMHO they rock! The native resolution does offer slightly higher detail levels but no more than what you'd expect to see from the extra resolution, other resolutions like 1600x1000, 1440x900 and even 1280x1024 (stretched) still look superb. When I first got my 8790 it had the original 1440x900 native res WXGA LCD, I subsequently upgraded to the newer glossy WSXGA+ screen but was forced to run a lot of games in either 1280x1024 or 1440x900 due to the performance of the MR9700 GPU - I feel that 1440x900 (non-native) looks just as good on the WSXGA+ LCD (if not better) than it did native on the WXGA screen.
